On Giving Tuesday, Help Us Create Change

On November 28, The Kidney Foundation will once again participate in Giving Tuesday. This international day of giving provides you with the opportunity to give back to causes that have impacted your life.

With the support of thousands of volunteers and donors like you, we were able in the last year to screen over 1,000 people in populations at high risk of kidney disease, to distribute over 19,000 free copies of our patient handbook and we’ve had more than 2,300 people use our online risk assessment tool.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to help us create change.

HORIZONS 2022 Report Calls for Transformational Change

This year, the HORIZONS 2022 workshop brought together members of the kidney community to discuss, strategize and brainstorm about the future of kidney research in Canada. The workshop was organized by The Kidney Foundation in partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Canadian Society of Nephrology (CSN).

Following their wide-ranging, inclusive and energetic discussions, the group concluded that while outcomes for people living with kidney disease have improved over the last five decades, the basic approaches to manage and treat kidney disease have not changed significantly. By and large, the focus is on management, control, and incremental enhancements. You can now read the HORIZONS 2022 report.

November, Diabetes Awareness Month

One of the two leading causes of kidney failure is diabetes. Living and dealing with both diabetes and CKD can be challenging. This is why, in November, we have been sharing information on social media about diabetes and kidney disease.

The Kidney Foundation provides plenty of information and online resources. During this special month, we invite you to read about diabetes and kidney disease. Those who are living with both diseases can also find some tips about nutrition in our eating guidelines for diabetes and CKD.

We also invite you to meet Dr. John Chan, 2017 recipient of a Biomedical Research Grant from The Kidney Foundation in the "diabetes" category.

Check our website and social media feeds later this week to find out how you can register for our upcoming webinar on Diabetes and Kidney Disease on December 7.

Amazing Race Seeks Applicants Impacted by Organ Donation

The Amazing Race Canada, which returns for a 6th season in the summer of 2018, is looking for heroes, in particular, every day and unsung heroes who make a difference in their family, community and country. Producers are hoping to tell the story of an individual or team of individuals affected by organ donation / a living kidney transplant, be it as donor, recipient, caregiver or family member. To apply, adventurous, active, energetic teams of two are invited to upload a three-minute video to tell producers why they are ready to win the race together. Visit their website.
