Planned Giving

Making a planned gift to a charity you believe in is a way to have an especially meaningful and lasting impact. In 2011, The Kidney Foundation of Canada established a Legacy Giving Society to recognize and honour individuals who have included the Kidney Foundation in their estate plans. You can find out more about planned giving at kidney.ca/planned-giving.

Of course you don’t need to be wealthy to give back! On December 2nd, take part in GivingTuesday and learn about the many ways you can help.

New Studies Seeking Participants

Clinical Trial Studying New Non-surgical Vascular Access Method for Hemodialysis
Five hospitals in Canada are currently enrolling patients with end-stage (stage IV or V) renal disease for a clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of a device that creates an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) in a percutaneous procedure, without general anesthesia or surgery.

Walking and Health in Adults with a Kidney Transplant
Researchers at Athabasca University want to learn about the health outcomes associated with walking behaviour in adult kidney transplant recipients. Participants will be asked to wear a pedometer for three days and record their number of steps, then complete and return a survey (postage paid).

For more information on these clinical trials, visit www.kidney.ca/surveys.

Facebook Fans Awarded Our First Virtual Special Appreciation Awards

A year ago, The Kidney Foundation partnered with the Aviva Community Fund to launch our first, strictly SOCIAL MEDIA based fundraising initiative. Our Facebook Fans were asked to “Like" the Aviva Banner on our page within a 7-day period, every day – if possible. Thanks to the support of our Fans, The Kidney Foundation was able to raise $5,000 net dollars!

It was an inspiring example of how the kidney community can come together in modest - but highly significant ways - to help fund our nationwide mission of reducing the burden of kidney disease. Our Facebook Fans posted encouraging comments and shared information on our mission so the Foundation also benefited from the online word-of-mouth and awareness raised by the effort. We would like to recognize their willingness to spread the word with the Foundation’s first Virtual Special Appreciation Award.
