You make our work possible every day!

As we enter a new year, one filled with so much potential and opportunity on the horizon, we want to pause and offer our enormous gratitude to those who make our work possible – YOU –members, supporters, CLAM residents and allies who make our work possible every day. Your contributions in 2019 helped us reach our fundraising goals and enter 2020 stronger than ever.

In just a few days, we will be submitting a proposal to the County of Marin to rehabilitate the former Coast Guard housing neighborhood for affordable homes. Thanks to broad community support from people like you, we’re hopeful that CLAM stands a good chance of winning the bid to develop the property for homes as well as other community uses.

CLAM’s growth over the past few years has meant more homes for more people –– including employees of many local businesses and nonprofits –– and greater awareness of the need for our work. Our membership has grown from just over 100 in 2016 to almost 500 today. And it is our membership who have truly made all the difference, by supporting our work financially, showing up to County hearings to advocate for CLAM’s work, and by creating homes on their properties and within their existing homes that are rented at reasonable rates.

We really can’t thank you enough for standing alongside us in our shared commitment to community-owned land held forever as homes that working people, families and seniors aging in place can afford.

We look forward to continuing on the journey with you this year!

Happy New Year,

HOW TO FORM A TENANTS UNION
Saturday Jan. 18, 2-4pm
199 Greenfield Ave., San Rafael

HOUSING AND RENTAL PRICES CONTINUE TO CLIMB. Folks are being pushed out or are paying more rent than they can afford. Tenants Together is a statewide coalition of local tenant organizations dedicated to defending and advancing the rights of California tenants to safe, decent, and affordable housing. They are helping local residents to form tenant unions to empower renters to fight back. They have organized a public meeting about the formation of tenants unions. We are sharing this information on behalf of Tenants Together.

TENANTS UNIONS—WHY AND HOW
Saturday, January 18, 2-4pm,

THE PROGRAM (from the organizers):  Tenants Together will present on how to form tenant unions and the process to set up one up. Attorney David Levin, formerly with Legal Aid of Marin, will present information on tenants’ rights throughout the county.

We'll talk briefly about the LA Tenants union. Residents and organizers from throughout Marin will relate their stories and how they are organizing. Then we’ll break out into groups to learn what issues each person or group is facing. We'll come back together to talk about what steps we can take together. Please RSVP. Invite anyone you’d think would be interested.
