Governors for Schools - Governors for Schools prides itself on finding and placing governors of all backgrounds on school governing boards in England and Wales. A diverse governing board is a stronger board, reflecting school communities and the wider country. In 2020, over 30% of Governors for Schools’ volunteers were from BAME backgrounds. Over 65% were under 45, not to mention having diverse skills, life experiences, and perspectives. The charity has created a quality mark for schools using the service to demonstrate their commitment to finding skilled and diverse governors through an independent organisation. It’s an assurance to school communities that the board values diverse governance and is doing all it can to make governance as robust as possible. If you have a current governor vacancy please register this with the charity here.

New Book: More than Words: Promoting Race Equality and Tackling Racism in Schools - Kate Hollinshead and Sarah Soyei (co-founders of EqualiTeach) have been commissioned by Jessica Kingsley Publishers to write a book on Promoting Race Equality and Tackling Racism in Schools, which will be published in summer 2022. The book will be based on Kate and Sarah’s combined 26-year experience of working in the field of equality in education, as well as relevant case studies and lived experiences of other educational professionals. For that reason, we are reaching out to ask if you would be able to spend 5-10 minutes filling in a questionnaire to share your experiences of racism in schools, any initiatives and approaches that you have found to be successful in promoting race equality and any barriers and obstacles that you have come up against during your time in education. Everyone who completes the questionnaire will be entered into a prize draw to win £30 of book vouchers. The questionnaire can be found here. Please contact Kate Hollinshead for more information.
