1. PJC Welcomes New Members 

New PJC Program Launched 

On January 10, 2016 PJC youth met at Two Dogs Pizza to welcome 7 new youth members and kick off the new spring program! Under this program youth will have youth-led monthly workshops on various topics. These workshops are developed to encourage youth to pursue educational and economic opportunities. Youth facilitating these workshops will learn and improve their leadership skills, organizational skills, ability to work in a group, research skills and presentation skills. Topics that will be covered include: College & Career Tools, Public Speaking, Ways to Share Your Story, Healthy Eating, & Farmworker Rights.

Volunteering Opportunity!  

Workshops are developed by youth under the guidance of NC FIELD staff and Board members. However we welcome the community and our supporters to get involved too! If you would like to assist in the development of a workshop send a proposal to Yessy Bustos

2. Youth-Led Workshops  

College & Career Tools - Feb. 7th 
On Feb. 7th, PJC Youth Leaders Eddie, Ana, and Daniel led the first monthly workshop of the Spring! The topic for February was College and Career Tools. 

Youth presented: 
  • A FAFSA Overview & How to apply Tutorial, 
  • Financial Aid Activity to learn about scholarships, grants, and student loans,  
  • How to Format a Resume and Cover Letter, and 
  • Provided Interview Tips and Guidelines. 
Next Monthly Topic: Public Speaking 
On March 6th PJC Leaders Ana and Jose will lead a Public Speaking workshop. This workshop is being developed by youth under the guidance of NC FIELD staff and Food Youth Initiative Organizer Bevelyn. 

3. PJC Youth are heading to Wilmington!  

In collaboration with the Lenoir Migrant Education Program, PJC will have the opportunity to make a trip to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Youth will learn receive an informative session by the university, walking campus tour, trip to the bookstore, and experience eating on-campus.

For many youth this will be their first exposure to a college campus. It is supporters like you that make this work possible.

4. Get Involved!  

NC FIELD is currently looking for a driver!   
Drivers must:
  • Be 21 years or older,
  • Have a valid driver's license,
  • Have current car insurance, and
  • Must pass background check
Drivers will be compensated for their time on long trips/events. The NC FIELD van is available for use, or drivers will be reimbursed if using a personal vehicle. If you or anyone you may know is eligible please Yessy Bustos. 
Volunteering Opportunities are also available! 

From chaperoning at one of our events, helping transport youth to meetings, to mentoring youth, we encourage you to get involved! If you have a specific way you would like to donate your time get in touch with  Yessy Bustos. 

5. Emergency Farmworker Fund News

Just because the temperature in eastern North Carolina is dropping doesn't mean farmworkers won't stay warm! With the success from our Emergency Farmworker Fund Fundraising campaign in November we were able to purchase 5 NEW heater towers!! By collaborating with Lenoir County Migrant Education Program we located 5 families in Lenoir and Greene county who were in need of a heater.

This conference will offer opportunities to discuss and engage our community and youth in advocacy, leadership, and education. NC FIELD 's Lead Coordinator, Yessy Bustos, will participate as a panelist to address issues affecting youth in the community. For more information:

For more
NC FIELD does most of its work on a small budget and with support of volunteers. There are a lot of operating costs in serving farmworkers. Through your donation PJC youth will learn about colleges/universities, DACA, social justice, youth organizing, and more! If you would like to donate to help families in crisis with utility bills and food shortages please donate to our Emergency Farmworker Fund and Food bank. 

Donation can be made online or you can send a check to NC FIELD, PO BOX 121, Kinston, NC 28502. 

Donors may deduct contributions to NC FIELD to the extent that their contributions are gifts, as provided in section 180 of the Internal Revenue Code.
