SEASON 2021 - JULY UPDATE

July heralds the change of season in the macadamia industry.  Most growers have past peak harvest and are now looking to implement their post harvest programs of pruning, spreading compost and orchard floor works to get the best start for next season.  Early flower is out, the buds of the main flower are developing and it wont be long before crop protection programs start.
The speed and volume of deliveries of NIS into the factory so far this season has been very strong. After significant rainfall early on, most regions experienced good harvest conditions for most of April, May and June.  The increased volumes delivered to the factory can be attributed to good results with Ethrel on farms that used it, tree shaking, an increase in the number of suppliers to the factory and increased supply from shareholders.
A full factory performance and market update including an update from Green and Gold Macadamias will be given at next weeks AGM on 30/7 - RSVP now if you would like to attend - RSVP is essential.

SIGN IN FOR SAFETY  We take safety seriously at Suncoast Gold. A new contactless sign in process has been launched for all growers and transport operators entering site for deliveries.   Our site does not require mandatory use of the QLD Covid sign in app, however we have taken the step to set up a simple QR code sign-in that opens in a web browser.  The sign-in process remains mandatory for all visitors to site and forms part of our food safety, WorkSafe and quality assurance framework as well as complying with covid-19 contract tracing should the need arise.  Speak to our staff if you are unsure how to sign in.
SPRAYER CALIBRATION  Annual calibration of your spray equipment and keeping records of calibration is required under the SGM food safety program and also under programs such as Freshcare.  Calibration is the best way to ensure you are not wasting chemical over-spraying or putting your crop at risk by under-spraying.  DOWNLOAD this simple sprayer checklist to help get your Sprayer Calibration done right this season.
BEST PRACTICE IN POST HARVEST  Setting up a new orchard is huge task and so much time and effort is put onto the planning of the trees, planting and irrigation.  But have you given thought to your post harvest handling? Do you know what the current best practices are and what you need to comply with in terms of food safety requirements? Poor handling of nut can lead to downgraded product from defects such as internal discolouration, it can also lead to contamination of product which our industry needs to avoid.  These things can be avoided with good planning and best practice. New growers should check out the Food Safety Audit Checklist  and view our downloads page to find out more about what is required.  Contact us to book a consultation with one of our Grower Services Team.
CROPWATCH REPORTS ON SEASON QUALITY
Independent Macadamia assessment laboratory Cropwatch have released there season newsletter and are reporting higher Internal Discolouration (Brown Centre) and lower Kernel Recoveries compared to last season.- read it here
