Innovative trip planner for destination websites


Dr Roger CarterIn the introductory Destination World message that I sent you yesterday, I promised to tell you about innovative applications to enhance the effectiveness of tourism destination operations.

One such application is a new trip planning tool to help users of destination websites to create detailed itineraries, providing the information that will enable them easily to research, plan and book their travel to multiple destinations.

This trip planner, developed by a Silicon Valley company called Inspirock, recently won Brand USA’s Marketing Innovation Award. You may see it in operation at www.inspirock.com. Inspirock tells me that it can easily be integrated into a destination website and add considerable value for users.

Your destination is one where I think such a trip planner could be particularly valuable, in terms of meeting a real consumer need and also:

  • to maximise ‘look to book’ conversion
  • to stimulate travel to areas where there is both a need and an opportunity for tourism growth.

Inspirock already has an existing database of nearly a half million attractions and activities worldwide, but also provides the opportunity for national tourist offices and DMOs to supplement the content for their destination – ideally by a feed from their own database.

  • provide you with a performance dashboard for you to monitor use of the trip planner (including user travel patterns) and bookings.
