Dear CASLPA Members,


As you know, since CBC Marketplace aired a segment on the high cost of hearing aids in early February, CASLPA has been working to respond to this story on your behalf. 

A few weeks ago, we asked you to complete a survey on your billing practices, services, fees and the cost of hearing aids. Your responses have been incredibly valuable in preparing our response.  

Yesterday, we submitted a letter of complaint to the CBC ombudsman.
The letter describes the ways in which Marketplace did not uphold CBC values and program standards in their presentation of this story. The CBC ombudsman has forwarded our complaint to CBC News and they are required to respond to us within 20 working days; at which point, if we are unsatisfied with the response, we can request a review by the ombudsman. We will continue to keep you updated as we hear more.

Many of you have told us that, as a result of this story, you have had to field questions from concerned patients. To help you respond to their concerns, we are developing some tools, which will present the facts and explain the issue in a clear way.
