Imagine….hundreds of children and families!

Ten days ago, I was in Minneapolis, Minnesota, visiting Plymouth Congregational Church, a downtown church similar in location to ours. I took the trip to experience their children and youth music program as well as meet with their director of music, director of children’s programs plus choir, handbell and liturgical dance teachers. I had an amazing time and I learned so much!
Eight years ago, Plymouth in Minneapolis was experiencing a rapid decline in their Sunday school program with only a handful of children and families participating. Their Sunday school wing was old and dark, the few teachers left were tired and the children’s choir had… Read full article >

Whose going to N-Sid-Sen?

Hi Everyone,

N-Sid-Sen isn't coming up for a little while yet, but planning is under way. CY Board is looking for someone to organize the children's program at camp. This doesn't mean that you teach all the classes, rather that you make sure the teachers have resources and a plan. This is a great way to get to know adults and kids at camp! Let me know if you're interested - we'll cover your registration cost!

Whose coming to camp with me??

In addition to our own Family Camp at N-Sid-Sen July 21-27 the UCC conference offers a variety of camps throughout the summer. Early bird registration applies up to 3 weeks before the start of the camp you want to attend.

I will be a counselor at Intermediate camp (entering grades 5th & 6th) at Pilgrim Firs July 14-20! I would love it if our current 4th & 5th graders could join me!!

CY Conversation about Next Program Year

Over the past year some of us on staff have been in conversations with Plymouth families and visitors about how our Sunday morning is challenging for families. There are a few families that we know of who visited and decided not to come back because of our schedule. As this does not bode well for a church that is trying to grow with young families, the CY Board decided to take a look at what we might do differently. Here is a snapshot of the ideas and conversation. You can find a power point presentation on this topic here.

Initial idea:

What if we shaved an hour or so off of the morning by having children’s choir/bells during the 10am… Read full article >

Living into Pentecost

I saw The Brilliance on Friday night at The Well at Queen Anne UMC - their music has a heavy classical string influence and their words are powerful. Their performance was so moving to me that I wanted to share one of their songs for your reflection as we move into the season of Pentecost!
