Bringing the Program Year to a Close

Confirmation Sunday!

I am looking forward to another festive Sunday as we prepare for Confirmation and celebrating intentional steps of faith. This year we have 8 youth from our eighth grade class who would like to confirm their faith and join the church! I so enjoy being a part of the confirmation class and process, getting to know these amazing young people who open my eyes to new ways of seeing the world and remembering how many things were stirring in me at that age. I have distinct memories of my own confirmation, standing up front with my peers, having waters of baptism dripping from my hair and giggling through my nerves. The journey of faith that begins… Read full article >

This Sunday is also Teacher Appreciation - Thank You so much to all of the teachers who have dedicated time and energy to our young people! You make the difference!

What inspires you?

CY Board is doing teacher recruitment a little different this year. We are looking for groups of adults to come together to teach 3-week blocks of time in the elementary program. We will be looking for 6-8 adults to gather for a potluck and plan their time with the leadership of a member of the CY board. No teacher training, just a potluck with hang out time, instruction on the process and best practices in classroom management. What kind of topics would inspire you to teach our kids? Healing . . . Letting Go . . . Stewardship . . . Prayer and Making Ritual . . . Play . . . Bible Stories . . . Sabbath . . . anything catch your attention?

NEW - UCC Faith Practices Curriculum

We are excited about our new UCC curriculum, Faith Practices, which teaches kids (and adults) how to practice their Christian Faith. Think of it like practicing Yoga or Tai Chi – how do we practice our faith? The class sessions follow the basic form of worship, where we GATHER, listen to the WORD or scripture, we RESPOND in some way and then we are SENT out into the world. The kids will learn what it is like to do all of these pieces so that they can start to make connections between what they learn in class and what happens in worship. There would also be regular Sundays where kids would be in worship to participate with the rest of the… Read full article >

Gathering at Horizon House

I just returned from a lovely Pie Social with our friends at Horizon House! We gathered and ate Molly Pies (yum!), after which they listened to my presentation on how our church school year has been. I discussed the different classes, children's choir, confirmation, 10to10, family worship, Poinsettia delivery, Littlest Pageant, and our vision for next year (found in the articles above)! They expressed appreciation for all the CY board, teachers, parents and I are doing to create engaging programs for the kids and to re-think church school so that we might engage new families and grow the church! Thank YOU for all you do!

Dear Parents with Young Children in Church

I am totally *that* mom blog post Yep, I'm *that* mom. Which one might that be? Oh it's different on any given day. Sometimes I'm the granola crunchy hippy mom... sometimes I'm the mom that wonders if mimosas with breakfast are an okay way to start the day... and all too often I'm the mom who doesn't remember the last time she got to shower.
