Karen Hollis will be the lead chaperone from Plymouth. More to come on how Plymouth can be hosts to youth and leaders from states in the western USA!
Superpotluck - January 26
Sunday, January 26th I think will prove to be a busy and Spirit-filled day! We have a number of programs happening after church, including the confirmand/mentor potluck, Masterminds & Wingmen, and the MLK Soul Choir concert!
We are planning a superpotluck for which different groups are being asked to bring different things. For the confirmation/Masterminds crowd, please bring a main or side dish (salads are being covered by another group).
We will gather in Hildebrand at 12:15pm to get our food and then each group will split off to various areas in the church. We look forward to sharing a meal with you all!
Last week I started reading Masterminds and Wingmen and was immediately captivated by Wiseman's insights about Boy World. Though I don't yet have children, I see tremendous value in the research and insight Wiseman has put into this book. If you are unable to join us for discussion, I enourage all parents of boys or girls, and anyone who cares about kids to read this book.
Our discussion group will meet again Sunday Jan 26, 12:30-2 pm. (Remember to park or move your car into the Plymouth parking lot so you do not have to pay for parking after 1:30.) Here's how to prepare for the January meeting:
2 pm - Sing Out for Justice: Community Choral Celebration to benefit Mary's Place
Wed, January 29 - Early Bird Registration deadline for Western Regional Youth Event
Talk About Death & Dying
Families who are a part of faith communities often ask, what can I be doing at home to teach my child about how to live a life of faith? How can I help my kids grow into their own spirituality? Honestly, there are very simple things we can do as a family that will naturally encourage spiritual growth . . . things that a lot of which families do anyway. Still, it's nice to know that the things we do are helping our kids in this way. Nancy Bostrom wrote a lovely little book called, 99 Ways to Raise Spiritually Healthy Children, from which I will share excerpts to plant seeds, share ideas, and offer encouragement for families of ALL SHAPES AND SIZES.
