Ring in the New Year with Our Intergenerational Book Gathering

How can we use literature as a catalyst to deepen our faith? Children in grades k-6,
their parents and all other interested adults are invited to read The Lion, the Witch and
the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis prior to January 13th. In three sessions we will use drama,
games and small group discussions to explore the book’s Christian themes. We will meet in
room 222/223 January 13, 20 and 27 from 10-10:50 a.m. Twenty copies of the book
are available for borrowing –check one out from the church office. Questions? Contact
facilitator, Anne Kiemle: 425-649-9388 or annekiemle@zipcon.net

Family Worship

I was praying and dreaming a number of weeks ago and was left with a striking image of a family worship service. I received a tremendous response from children and adults about the songs the kids sang in FOCUS this fall and wanted to explore its possibilities further. This kind of praise music with good theology would be the musical grounding for the service.

I believe in intergenerational worship, where wisdom about God is shared between the generations and the gifts and energy of each stage of life is celebrated, yes celebrated!

Each month for the rest of the program year beginning the 2nd Sunday in February, families of all shapes and… Read full article >

Increase Worship Attendance

It is perhaps ironic that once I made the announcement about a new worship project, that I would come across a webinar about increasing worship in your church by . . . creating a new worship service!

This teaser video (for the webinar) provides some eye-opening information, as well as some challenge to a UCC church looking to be always more faithful and vital in our church life and as we reach outward.

Stewardship with Children

A few weeks ago I had the kids present at 10to10 fill out stewardship forms. I wanted to offer the other kidsStewardship in the chruch the same opportunity. Here are the questions below. Just have your child mark the ones they want to do and either email it to me (khollis@plymouthchurchseattle.org) or print it out and bring it to the church office. Thanks -Karen

The 18-Point Phone Contract, Written by Mom.

Greg Hoffman is a kid who just got an iPhone from his parents. His mom, Janell Hoffman, wrote these [slightly edited] rules for its use:

1. It is my phone. I bought it. I pay for it. I am loaning it to you. Aren't I the greatest?

2. I will always know the password.

3. If it rings, answer it. It is a phone. Say hello, use your manners. Do not ever ignore a phone call if the screen reads "Mom" or "Dad". Not ever.

4. Hand the phone to one of your parents promptly at 7:30pm every school night & every weekend night at 9:00pm. It will be shut off for the night and turned on again at 7:30am. If you would not make a call to someone's land line,… Read full article >

SNOW CAMP IS COMING!

It’s time to get Plymouth’s annual Snow Camp on your
calendar! It will be February 16-19, Presidents Day weekend at Camp Koinonia.
This year we will be joined by members of University Lutheran Church (where
I am Church Administrator). They have their Winter Retreat the same as our
Snow Camp and have traditionally gone to Grünewald Guild. However, it is more
expensive and less people are able to attend. So, this year they will be joining us!
They usually have a community art project and we will be trying that this year.
What exactly is to be determined. The cost is $108 for 13 year old and older, $64
for 9-12 years old, $53 for 3-8 years old and… Read full article >
