Prayer and Ritual at Home

From 99 Ways to Raise Spiritually Healthy Children by Kathleen Long Bostrom

13. Bless Your Child

Rachel Naomi Remen is a physician specializing in cancer treatment. She is also the author of the book My Grandfather's Blessings: Stories of Strength, Refuge, and Belonging. In this book, Remen recalls that during her childhood she and her grandfather had tea together on Friday afternoons. After they had finished their tea, her grandfather would call the little girl over to stand in front of him. He would gently place his hands on top of her head and thank God for her. Name tags!

Many thanks to Beverly Buehler for putting together some simple, straight-forward and beautiful name tags for kids! When kids arrive at church, they are invited to pick up their name tags from the same place we keep the adult ones and wear them for the morning. They can put their name tags back in their proper place as they leave the building. Because we have so many people teaching church school this year, and because it's good for us to know each other's names, I encourage all of us to identify ourselves so that we can call each other by name!

Books on Prayer

The month of October is dedicated to Prayer and Making Ritual in our church school classes, as well as in worship. Suzanne in the library is supporting this study by filling a special corner of the library with books on prayer. These can be used in church school classes, as well as for personal use. I encourage you to go and see how these books might support your study.

Christmas Eve Schedule

Sunday December 24th we will have 3 worship services:

4pm - Wee worship

6pm - Family worship

10pm - Candle Light Service

These services are scheduled so that families will have enough time to sit down to dinner, as well as worship together in celebration of Jesus' birth. We will have refreshments 5-6pm, as well as before the 10pm worship service.

A Little About My Kid

If you and your child(ren) have not filled out an "A Little About My Kid" and "A Little About Me" form, please pull one of each from our website and bring the completed forms to the office on Sunday. The information on these forms are given to the Church School teachers so that we can better know one another and have a successful Church School year!! Thank you to all who have completed forms!

Teaching in the Spring

The CY Board is currently recruiting teachers for the spring! The teaching teams that have formed thus far have had enthusiastic energy around this task and have had a fun time getting to know each other better, getting to know our kids, and planning lessons that help kids learn how to practice their faith. Elmo is excited and I hope you will be, too!

This spring the kids will be learning:

March - Blessing and Letting Go

April - Lent/Easter The kids will mostly be in worship, but there may be some opportunity for a project if someone feels inspired by the theme.

May - Playing and Living Joyfully

Please contact Karen Hollis if you have questions or would like to sign up.
