COVID-19 Guidance Change
March 22, 2020

To whom it probably does concern,

For the sake of maximum transparency from your state acupuncture association...

Thank you to everyone for your feedback via email and Facebook.  One of those responses gave us new information about OHA's interpretation of Kate Brown's executive order 20-10 here:

https://www.oregon.gov/gov/Documents/executive_orders/eo_20-10.pdf

It seems to indicate to us that we made a mistake in our interpretation of the order and the circumstances around it, released just yesterday evening.  We are urging closure of acupuncture clinics in Oregon.

During our monthly board meeting Thursday night last week, we decided as a board with the input of several senior practitioners on the call (including an attorney's interpretation of executive order 20-10) to make a decision. We looked at several state acupuncture associations' decisions as well that of the ASA before coming to our recommendation.  It was made with difficulty and most of our board members' clinics were already closed by the time.  We expect that we will probably get more clarification from Kate Brown's office in the near future that will further elaborate on what they mean by “essential care.”

Clearly this is a continually evolving situation and we appreciate your thoughtful collaboration to ensure the healthiest and best outcome through these challenging situations.

Sincerely,

Ross McCallum, LAc
OAA President
