Blackwall Hitch

It’s amazing to think that just last May, Blackwall Hitch opened its doors just a few short steps from Main Street Annapolis and instantly became a new local favorite.  The name Blackwall Hitch has a unique dual origin, both from a type of connecting ship’s knot and also London’s Blackwall Port, whose ships historically sailed in and out of Annapolis. The name of the restaurant also encompasses its core value of connection—with its diners, its team members, the community and the quality products offered.

Chef Zachary Pope fell in love with food as a young child and although his career path initially led him towards the medical field, he ultimately followed his passion and started his journey in hospitality with a degree from the Baltimore International Culinary College (now Stratford University) in 1993.

Since being named Executive Chef, Pope has designed seasonally inspired bi-annual menus that play on local flavors and creative ingredients. His newest Fall/Winter menu, which debuted just last week, showcases hearty, earthy flavors such as cremini mushrooms, root vegetables and fresh kale.

In addition to the dynamic menu, Blackwall Hitch also boasts free live music, available Wednesday through Sunday and Chef’s Table Wine Dinners, which offer an intimate evening of dining, complete with personalized interaction directly with Chef Pope—a true culinary experience.
