"The Next Generation"
This month graduations are taking place every day.  High school and college graduates are celebrating the achievement of time and effort it took to earn a diploma. Life's milestones, such as a graduation, reminds us where we've been and how far we've come.

Why does looking into the future seems so distant, but when looking back time seems to have flown by?  The difference between excited and anxious is a result of our attitudes and beliefs. In the June issue of KC Health and Wellness magazine, my article addresses conquering your thoughts and strongholds.

Whenever I write a congratulatory card or attend a graduation a flood of emotions wash over me and I become teary eyed as fond memories come to my mind of the transformation the graduate has gone through. Joy fills my heart as the time for dreams to take flight has come.  The diploma is symbolic of commitment and achievement.  High fives all around!

A graduation is an event where family members of several generations gather together to celebrate and share memories of the years gone by.

I will never forget a gift I received from a friend when I moved from Illinois to the west coast in pursuit of my dream to be a Professional athlete. She gave me a suitcase.  Seeing the confused look on my face she said, "You don't get it, do you?  You're going places Lucy and I support your passion to go after your dream."   This was a priceless memory given to me by someone who believed in me.

You can etch a similar memory on someone's heart and mind too. Whether you are a parent, an aunt, an uncle, friend, teacher or coach, your actions and words impact others.  Your lack of actions make an impression too. Recall your own childhood. Who believed in you?  How did that make you feel and how has it impacted your life?

The poem "A Hundred Years From Now" is a personal favorite of mine. The words are etched on the clock that sits on the mantel above my fireplace.  I have always kept the clock in plain sight as a reminder to focus on the BIG picture.

A few strong attributes to instill in children would include:  empathy; integrity; work ethics; manners and the power of good habits.  Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Proverbs 22:6

At recent family gatherings, I have enjoyed spending time talking with my nieces and nephew, the youngest is seventeen.  I found myself so intrigued with their talents, creativity and knowledge that the conversations went on and on.

When was the last time you sat down and had a real heart-to-heart conversation with a young adult?  If it's been awhile, I'd encourage you to take some time and learn what interests them and ask them to share their dreams, ambitions and bucket list.  One of the best gifts you can give anyone is your full attention.

The next generation has a lot of enthusiasm and because of their inexperience, they don't have fears of past failures to dwell on and bring doubts of "what if".  Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever did.

The next generation is creative and open to new ideas so they embrace the unknown future as an adventure, a challenge and an opportunity.

Youth also adapts to change quickly. As we age, we often gravitate toward what we know and resist change.  A humorous but accurate illustration of how change is constant and generations can come together is presented in a short clip called "Texting Harry" by Connie Podesta.

My passion and desire is to help others in the pursuit of Health & Happiness.  As a coach for over thirty years, I can honestly say it gives my heart great joy to see the transformation in my clients lives.  Thank you for allowing me into your life.

The Ben Davis video is an inspirational story that brings tears of joy to my eyes every time I watch it.  The last photo with Ben, his father and his brother is a celebration of life and determination.

Are you ready for a transformation in your life?  I'm not saying it will be easy; I am saying it will be worth it!  Give me 90-days and see the Next Generation in You!

Until next month…TCOY!

Drinking water is perhaps the most undervalued source of physical energy renewal. A muscle dehydrated by as little as 3% will lose 10% of it's strength and 8% of it's speed.  Inadequate hydration also compromises concentration and coordination.

The picture below is a great visual of what is happening inside our body when we fail to keep it hydrated. The basil plants below wilted after just a few hot days while I was out of town last summer. Amazingly, after given a good watering they perked back in a couple days!

Our body needs water to function optimally.  Considering the fact that 55-75% of our body is water,  fuel it up properly to reap the benefits.  Drinking caffeine for energy, which is a diuretic, actually prompts dehydration and fatigue in the long run.

TCOY Challenge:  Reduce your daily intake of soda's, juices and coffee for a few days or a week and watch your energy begin to soar (addictions have physical and emotional impact, so this will be challenging at first, but stick with it, the benefits are worth it).

A few years ago, after much research and due diligence, I purchased a Kangen SD-501 water ionizer machine. I believe this is one of the best investments I have ever made.

Did you know that our blood pH level needs to be withn a certain range of 7.35- 7.45?   If our body’s pH deviates from this range, we become sick or begin to show symptoms of sickness.  An acidic body (a low pH) is a magnet for sickness, disease, cancer, and aging.

I strongly endorse and recommend drinking KANGEN ALKALINE WATER. Equally impressive to me is the 11.5pH for cleaning off toxic pesticides on our fruit and vegetables.  Watch this short demo video.

"Having a hands-on personal trainer vs. virtual trainer is key to motivating procrastinators, like me.  It's much easier to ignore the emails than to face Lucy on Wednesday mornings and admit my personal failures.   Carriers have offered online wellness programs for more than 10 years.  So, if online coaching worked, obesity and other behavior driven chronic disease (like diabetes) would not be at an epidemic level."   Peg R  (client)
