Obstacle Illusions

The term "optical illusions" refers to the use of color, light and patterns to create images that can be deceptive or misleading to our brains.

I believe we are more apt to experience many "obstacle illusions" in our life.  Consider this a "Lucyism” for those times we allow our fear-based feelings and emotions to create “obstacles” that distort our perception and prevent us from pursuing our dreams.

Everyone has comfort zones but we only grow when we challenge ourselves and step outside of our comfort zones and, it's never easy. We are creatures of habit, however, I know from being open to new experiences I grow tremendously mentally and spiritually.

A person can come up with endless excuses not to do something (obstacles) that will challenge them to make changes.  Each excuse or negative thought fuels the subconscious and self-talk that creates a huge barrier to overcome.

What I have found to be the root cause of "obstacle illusions" are feeling and emotions.  When you start saying, “what if?" and you react with fearful emotions, it is easy to spiral downward and away from joys that await if you push beyond the fear and do it anyway.

Our subconscious accounts for over 90% of our daily actions.  What are you telling yourself?  Is it fear-based?  Fear and hope are the most powerful forces in life.  Fear drains the life out of you, while Hope injects life into you. You are the one who determines your outlook by minding your thoughts and emotions.

No motivational program or speaker will change someone who's self-talk is not in line with the change.  The mind is active 24/7 so be mindful of your thoughts.

Nothing is as powerful as a mind shift which is a new way of thinking. Consider a situation or idea from another viewpoint and you might say, “I never thought of it like that before."   The next step is to apply your new perspective into a new way of thinking.

For example, I am "directionally challenged".  I have found myself more times than I care to admit, turning the wrong way when driving. With my recent move to the Orlando area, I've faced my "obstacle illusions" and am learning my way around town and keeping a positive outlook.

A typical emotional reaction to being or getting lost is fear. The responses could include: a loss of control; anxiety; loneliness; feelings of inadequacy; frustration; anger; vulnerability; and many others.  None of these reactions will help the situation.  If unaddressed, this negative habit will impact your health today and in the future by increasing your stress levels.

Here's my secret for coping with my "obstacle illusions". I refuse to give in to the fear of being outside my comfort zone when I’m in unknown areas.  I first change my self-talk to, "I'm out exploring and enjoying this adventure."

I add extra minutes to my drive time and by doing so, I have the added bonus of finding new places to eat, shop and visit during my exploration.

Life is more than the destination; it's about the journey!

The "obstacle" is our mind and it is being lead with feelings of doubt and fear.  No thank you.  I want to live my life to the fullest and there is no room for fear.  Faith and fear cannot co-exist so I choose to embrace faith.  Fear is left out.  It works.  You simply must believe it and live it.

What areas of your life have "obstacle illusions" that are keeping you from trying new experiences and/or achieving new goals?  It is human nature to have fear but it's within each one of us to conquer those fears.
FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real.

Emboldened by having smashed his fears, Peter Sharpstates states, "freedom is a state of mind". Peter took to the streets in Perth, Australia and startled hundreds of people with his actions. Watch this YouTube video and enjoy his Dance of Freedom Smashing Invisible Chains of Fear.

Life is not meant to be lived in fear. Each moment of our lives is a gift filled with pure potential. Now is the time to allow yourself to let go of things that are limiting you and your potential and reach for those experiences, like dancing, that seem scary but are really there to set you free.

The spirit lives within us and once we realize how powerful it is, all chains are broken and you are free to experience life with the confidence that "all things will work out for the good".

Stop talking to yourself and start listening to yourself. Begin by fueling your mind with self-talk that empowers the change you want.

Awareness will begin to break the illusions.  Great things are ahead for those who take action.

Until next month,  TCOY!
