TCOY = Take Care of You

                                        WOW - What A Ride!

Have you ever taken a ride on a roller coaster or is it something on your “bucket list” you have yet to do?  Or, is it a thrill you have no desire to experience

A few weeks ago I went on an outing to WORLDS OF FUN, an amusement park in Kansas City.  Although I have ridden on other roller coasters, a few decades have passed since the last time I rode one.

Interestingly, I still enjoy the rush of riding a roller coaster; however, since becoming an adult, even the thought of riding the "teacups" or any circular ride can make me nauseous.  I wonder how many other adults feel the same way.

When I reached the top of the stairs to board the "Mamba" roller coaster, I noticed the "Chicken's Exit" sign located next to the boarding area. I couldn't help but wonder how many people make it all the way up to the boarding area only to change their mind and make use of the chicken exit. It was not an option for me.  Face any fear and do it anyway has been the motto I've held onto since my youth.  The process is empowering. I encourage everyone to embrace it.

Understanding how the mind impacts the body, physically and emotionally, is the key to unlocking what often blocks one's ability to persevere and succeed.
I remember people saying to me when I was young that I was “too young”, or “too small”, or “you’re a girl.”  I suppose such comments could be discouraging, but I always responded with determination. Fueled with tenacity, my attitude was one of "oh yeah, I'll show you!"   Tenacity is the quality of sticking firmly to any decision, plan or option without changing or doubting it.

Have you ever been challenged by negative comments from others or from your own self-talk?

You wouldn't allow a thief into your home to steal your belongings, so why let negative thoughts into your mind to steal your joy and happiness?

Thoughts determine actions.  Negative thoughts typically result in doubts and fear, which lead to procrastination and that leads to failure. Positive thoughts fuel creativity and determination, which lead to action.

Does the thought of failing keep you from trying new things?

Failure is an event not a person.  If you haven't failed, you haven't lived.  A toddler fails over and over again while learning to walk.  The encouragement given by others to try again makes a huge difference in their success.  Fear is not associated with the event of learning to walk.  It is as we age that negative thoughts, experiences and feedback from others begin to trigger our fears when faced with a new or uncertain situation.

A roller coast is symbolic of life with all the ups and downs and twists and turns.  Personally, I think the motion of a roller coaster is exciting and gives me a sense of adventure; where as a circular ride repeats the same thing over and over with increasing speed.  The result is a dizzy mental state with a feeling of confusion.

If you were asked to pick your favorite ride at an amusement park, what would you choose and why?  Would you choose adventure or would you choose to be a spectator?

Do you see a correlation between the ride and how you view and experience life?  Could changing your perspective open up new opportunities for you?
Children remind us of the importance of being open to try new things, to be mindful and live in the moment. Most children live with a positive anticipation and expectation of what is possible rather than allowing fear and doubt rob them of the joy of new adventures and experiences.

Doubt and fear destroy more dreams than actions ever have. At the end of life, wouldn't your rather say, "Oh Well" than "I wish I would have?"

Sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage to make a dramatic difference in your life.  Confidence comes in doing.

Enjoy the ride of your life every day.

Until next month, TCOY!
