                               Capture That Energy!

We've all experienced adrenaline rushes when the anticipation of an event makes our heart beat a little faster and excitement flows throughout our body like an electrical current.

It can happen when we are directly involved in an event, like a performance or competition, or perhaps as a spectator at a concert or sporting event.

The professional baseball World Series and professional football’s Super Bowl are two annual events in American sports that can create a high level of exhilaration for the players and their fans.

This year’s World Series captivated my heart in many ways.  I moved to Kansas City in 1998 after living in the San Francisco area for seventeen years and became a fan of Kansas City sports teams.  The Kansas City Royals and the San Francisco Giants fought their way into the World Series as wildcard teams in their respective divisions.

The KC Royals had not won the American League pennant since 1985 and that set the town ablaze with energy, optimism and a passion to cheer the team to victory.

Kansas City is known as the City of Fountains and when the Royals won the division playoff series, the entire KC metro area turned blue.  The nights sparkled in blue light and the water in our fountains flowed royal blue to show support for the team.

Everywhere you went the talk was about the Royals.  People were experiencing a sense of pride in the home team that played with heart, intensity and the passion of champions.

To my delight, I was able to attend my first-ever World Series game. I went to the second game and the excitement level and cheering was incredible.

From the parking lot to our stadium seats, the energy level was electric and continued throughout the nine innings.  Everyone was living in the moment and enjoying what, for many, was a once in a lifetime experience.

During this second game, Royals’ fans became even more ecstatic as the team defeated the San Francisco Giants by a score of 7-2.    The entire series was thrilling to watch.  Both teams captivated the fans with their athleticism and sportsmanship.

The athlete’s ability to focus and utilize their energy with such precision raises the question in my mind - what if everyone grasped the opportunity to live in the moment and perform to the best of their abilities?  How awesome would that be?

Whenever I enter a tournament, I'm intrigued by the optimism and hope during the opening day.  Anything can happen.  Hope is in the air.  Upsets can happen and when an underdog snatches the victory from a favored opponent, heads turn and the energy level increases.

What if we could learn to capture that energy and use it in everyday life?  Challenges are inevitable but a successful person understands that the only permanent loss is when you fail to try again.

Whether you are on top of the mountain or in a valley, remember, this too will pass.  Enjoy the highs and remember the energy and feelings you experienced; they are temporary but joyful moments in life.

I will never forget the energy of the crowd on October 24, 2014, during the World Series.  Kaufman stadium was packed with standing room only.  I watched the excitement and enthusiasm of both players and fans during a few awesome hours of baseball.

People often think time is our most valuable resource; however, I believe energy is really most valuable.  We only have so much energy to expend during the day.  Are you putting the bulk of your energy into things that are important or merely urgent?

The short video:
212 - The Extra Degree illustrates the power of energy created from a one degree difference.  Go the distance with that extra degree and see where that energy takes you.

Until next month, TCOY!
