On the road to the Vendée Globe 2016

Indian Summer in Lorient

One more month has flown by and October has arrived a little to soon for our taste! We have taken advantage of the last weeks at our base in Lorient to prepare the boat, test sail, and check the different systems over and over again. Sadly the Indian summer brought extended sunny summer days in Brittany but no wind! It is hard to prepare for the Southern Ocean gales when there’s only a ripple on the water but we ripped through the remaining items on our job list as we had lots of time at the dock!

Ideal conditions for the Défi Azimut

Last IMOCA gathering before the Vendée Globe, the Défi Azimut (weekend of races) gathered 17 boats out of the 29 that will be at the start. Most of the boats present were a lot newer than 100% Natural Energy but any occasion to set sails with other competitors is always valuable. Onboard for a night at sea, our favourite filmmaker Stan Thuret had dreamy conditions to make yet another great video (check it out just below if you haven’t already). Our supporters and partners crewed for the race around the island on Sunday, and enjoyed the blue skies and a finish in front of Bureau Vallee, a much newer racing yacht.

Welcome to the new guys!

Still looking for partners we are still delighted to count two new partners onboard this month: FUTURA is an online media specialising in innovation and discoveries in the fields of sciences, health, technologies, housing and the planets. They will follow Conrad’s race with a focus on the green technologies onboard. Joining us as well, the Backpacker’s Pantry company with their delicious and exotic dishes: Cuban Coconut Beans and Rice, Pad Thai, Katmandu Curry… they will allow us to bring some welcome diversity to our vegetarian’s plate during 90 days at sea!

Program in October:

11/ 12: Start of the delivery for les Sables d’Olonne
15: Race Village opens in Les Sables d’Olonne
20: Security check (all the mandatory security equipment is checked thoroughly)
25 - 28: Quick escape off the village for Conrad. First break this year!

Eté Indien à Lorient

Encore un mois bien rempli qui s’envole et nous emmène en Octobre un peu trop vite! Nous avons bien profité de notre base Lorientaise pour continuer à préparer le bateau, naviguer et tester les différents systèmes. Malheureusement — ou heureusement — la météo bretonne a été particulièrement sympathique et le vent est donc resté aux abonnés absents très souvent. Difficile pour l’équipe qui aurait aimé sortir plus régulièrement mais, au moins, l’excuse est bonne pour rester travailler au ponton et la liste des choses à faire diminue bien!

Des conditions idéales pour le Défi Azimut

Dernier rendez-vous officiel avant le départ du Vendée Globe, le Défi Azimut a rassemblé 17 IMOCA sur les 29 qui seront au départ des Sables d’Olonne. La majorité des bateaux présents étaient beaucoup plus récents que 100% Natural Energy mais l’occasion de tirer des bords avec d’autres bateaux est toujours intéressante. Embarqué pour une nuit en mer, notre vidéaste favori, Stan Thuret, a eu les conditions parfaites pour nous concocter une petite vidéo qui fait rêver (à voir ci-dessous si vous l’avez manquée). L’équipage du tour de Groix dimanche, constitué de supporters et partenaires s’est régalé sous le soleil pour finir juste devant Bureau Vallée.

Bienvenue aux petits nouveaux!

Toujours à la recherche de partenaires, nous accueillons ce mois ci avec plaisir FUTURA: Média de décryptage qui vous emmène à la rencontre des découvertes et innovations qui changent le monde autour de 5 rubriques: Sciences, Santé, Tech, Maison et Planète. FUTURA suivra la course de Conrad avec attention, apportant un focus sur la partie « énergies renouvelables » du projet. Autre arrivée qui nous réjouit, la marque Backpacker’s Pantry dont les plats lyophilisés exotiques (Cuban Coconut Beans and Rice, Pad Thai, Katmandu Curry…) vont permettre de varier les plaisirs de notre végétarien favori pendant ces 90 jours de mer!

Programme d'Octobre:

11/12: départ pour les Sables d’Olonne
15: ouverture du village de course, toute l’équipe déménage en Vendée :-)
20: passage du contrôle de sécurité (vérification de tout l’équipement de sécurité obligatoire à bord)
25 au 28: mini break hors du village pour Conrad
