Greetings Jaycees!

Reflecting on Installation Banquet, there are some things I want to touch on. Firstly, it was a wonderful night for all who attended, congrats to Kate and the ID Team for showing us a good time. Thank you! I was proud to bring my parents and their spouses into our fold for a night to show off what we have done for the year. My mom and dad know to an extent of what the Jaycees do; either from hearing me complain about DOT woes or bragging about the amount of beer I sold at Brat Days or to my hectic schedule of this-that-and-other-thing Jaycee related. But Installation Banquet was the first time they really "got" it. They got to see what is in all of us, a passion to help our community, a dedication to our cause, and a camaraderie of a family who celebrates our well-doing. My parents were blown away at the end-caps of the year, amazed by how much we succeeded in doing as a group. And honestly - when it's all laid out like that, I'm freaking proud of us. YOU should be proud of us and what this chapter did last year.

My theme (yes a theme, Jodie is aware) is getting members of the Jaycees to REmember why they joined. Cookie. So this month - I'll reflect on why I joined. When I joined in 2009, I did it for many reasons... mostly because I wanted to belong to something. In college I was part of a sorority, having 20+ sisters seemed like a great idea growing up as an only child. The love of a family and the joy of doing community service was something I missed after graduation. Knowing some people already in the Jaycees, it seemed natural that it'd be a good fit. And I believe that is still true, ya think?? I joined to do something with my extra time... something that did good for others and for myself, somewhere I could meet a lot of people to become friends with, somewhere I could get involved with my community. I'm not here to sit on my soapbox and talk at you or chair projects to get in the newspaper... those are just perks. Haha. I'm here to better myself and the community in the process. Being in the Jaycees has made me a better person, leader, friend, budgeter, drinker (shh), delegator and an active citizen. The Jaycee movement - 100 years going strong, 90 years here in Sheboygan. It's something to be proud of. Why are you proud of your Jaycee career?

IF you read this whole thing - congrats. You win. Thanks for caring. Find me at the next chapter meeting and tell me the random secret word hidden in my article and get a prize.

Until next time,
President Jenna

Now starts the time to start really getting involved. We have plenty of opportunities this year to do just that. Just a few to mention: Terror in April, Tourney of Taverns, Jaycee Rummage Sale, and Brat Days. There are so many ways you can help with these projects and a lot of opportunities to earn incentive points. If you have any questions on how to get involved please feel free to come to your Management Team, we would love to help! Also, in case you didn't know Management Projects help earn quite a bit of money for our chapter, which in turn helps us give back a lot to our community. Super exciting stuff :-)

Tourney of Taverns • May 2, 2015

Hi everyone!
This year's TOT (Tourney of Taverns) is coming up soon! The date had to be changed to Saturday, May 2nd as the original date conflicted with Terror in April.

I am looking for a couple people to help with some behind the scenes work ahead of time. My first meeting will be Tuesday, February 10th at 6:30pm at Weimann's. Please let me know if you can make it and if you would like to help out.

I will also need people to help be game monitors the day of the event. You would be responsible to run a game in a bar during the tourney. It's actually a lot if fun. You can enjoy a beer while you do it and watch teams work really hard to win fun games!

I'm looking forward to this event. I have helped with it in the planning stages in the past, been a game monitor, and been on a team. I can't wait to do work with some of you to put it on this year!

Please consider being a part of this fun event. Cheers!

Brat Days • July 30-Aug. 1, 2015

Fellow Jaycees,

Thanks to those who joined us for the first couple of meetings and offered to help organize Brat Days. Please consider joining the Brat Days Committee as we still have some spots left and can use the help. Most notably, we are looking for someone to train to take on the Brat Days Parade. Our next meeting is Thursday, February 12 at 7PM at Weimann's Sport Bar. Meetings will be the 2nd Thursday of the Month at Weimann's. Check us out to see what areas are available or just come to learn more about what it takes to run Brat Days.

Please check out the wiki site for minutes of meetings and current and past planning details HERE. Planning goes fast, so get involved early.

We need your stuff for the Jaycees rummage sale!

Although Saturday, June 13, 2015 feels like a loooong way in the future, now is the time to start thinking about the Jaycees rummage sale because we need your stuff! Many of us are cleaning and organizing our homes this holiday season, so now is the perfect time to set aside items to donate to the Jaycees rummage sale. This will be an awesome fundraising project with proceeds benefiting local charities. If you have any questions please contact Ashley Yurk at ayurk@hsabank.com or 920-207-0893.

Check out the event on Facebook and share with friends and family! Friday, June 12 will be our setup day, June 13 will be the day of the sale, and June 14 will be clean-up day.

Hey team. I hope that 2015 has started off in a great way for everyone. Thank you to all of you who filled out the ID survey. There are some great ideas that we got in return so be watching for some different courses that were requested for both personal and JCI growth. If you have more ideas please send one of us an email and we will make sure we do what we can to get it all set up.

It’s the perfect time for a chili cook off. If you are interested please let me know, there will be a sign up sheet at the February chapter meeting.  Also, in response to the ID survey we will be starting different growth courses. The first one will be before the March chapter meeting. With a big thank you to Jodie, she will be presenting “How to be a good chairman and run a good project.” This will take place at 6:00 pm on March 5th. This is right before the chapter meeting in March at the QVC. There will be a sign up sheet going around in the February chapter meeting.

Dining Club
Let’s try something new and different this year! Why? Because it's 2015 and it going to be a great year! Dining club is going to be taking place at restaurants that have donated food and other goods, to our Sheboygan Jaycees members and volunteers from the DOT project. Every year the DOT asks local restaurants to help donate food for our volunteers. We have received many donations from several places and we would like to give back! So, to show our support back to these businesses we will be having our dining club meetings at these places. The first Dining Club of the year will be held at Chissy’s Pub & Grill at 6pm on February 17. Click HERE for the Facebook event. This is an amazing way to show our support back to these businesses and may give us more opportunities to find new and different places to gather!

Let’s have a great 2015!!

Upcoming ID events:
  • Dining Club at Chissy’s on February 17th at 6:00pm
  • Dueling Pianos Social with the Sheboygan Optimists Club at the Down Under Bar on February 19th at 6pm, click HERE for details
  • Snow tubing at Sunburst (Date TBA), Chairperson: Nina Pfeifer
  • "How to be a good chairman and run a good project" on March 5th at 6:00 pm at QVC, presented by Jodie Zajkowski
  • Chili cook off at the March Chapter meeting on March 5th at 7:00
Thank you!
Ashley, Mary, and Lee

The Post-Holiday Food Bank that we had just a few weeks ago was a huge success! There were plenty of volunteers during set-up and tear down. On top of that many of our individual Chapter members donated non-perishable food items which was a great help and made quite a difference. We had many happy and thankful citizens, some in tears of joy, because of this event. A big Thank You goes out to Jodie Zajkowski and Julie Turner for making this happen.

Easter Bags for Project Angel Hugs
4-6pm Thu. March. 19, 2015
406 East Mill Street, Plymouth WI 53073
Chairperson: Nick Schmitz

On March 19th we will be heading out to Plymouth to help Project Angel Hugs make Easter Bags. This is an easy and fun event that brings out the kindergartner inside you since you'll be decorating paper bags with markers, crayons, glue, and of course glitter to make them fun and eye-popping to a child that is currently in the hospital. These decorated bags are later filled with toys and goodies and handed out to each child.

Big Brothers Big Sisters – 32nd Annual Bowl For Kids' Sake

7:30pm Sat. Feb. 28, 2015 @ Maple Lanes
Theme: "Something to Beach About"
Chairperson: Mary Perronne

This event is one of the biggest fundraisers for BBBS and the Sheboygan Jaycees have been participating for many years. In 2014 our teams raised $2,538.05 in pledges and also donated $500 from the Chapter. Let's surpass that amount in 2015!
â–º Each participant is required to raise a minimum of $60 in pledges, sign-up to do online fundraising!
â–º Each team must have a minimum of 4 members, but may have up to 5.

The February Warm & Fuzzy is going to be a 50/50 raffle. Half of the money earned will go to a very lucky attendee of our February Chapter meeting, while the other half will go to Project Angel Hugs of Plymouth. $1 = 1 ticket, $20 = 25 tickets.
Remember... service to humanity is the BEST WORK OF LIFE... so let's donate what time we've got - to better not only our lives, but the community at large.
