Happy Spring ya'll!

I hope the warmer weather and the tease of being outside has you renewed my fellow Jaycees. This spring/summer is going to be a busy one for our chapter. Not only do we have our staple projects, but several new ones that I am super excited about.. opportunity with the Optimists for Pitch, Hit & Run, the Rummage Sale, Jaycee Camping, who knows what else may arise. Which ones will you be helping out at?

This is our time to get into the community and show them what we got. The "nice" (using the term broadly) time of the year should be when we physically get out there and do some good. Let's show our fellow citizens what the Jaycee name is about. We know partly what it means, "service to humanity is the best work of life" - but how do we show that? Think about it for your participation this spring/summer's events. Zombie. How can we improve on it? Volunteering more at other organization's events? Doing more public area events (Street Clean Up/Beach Clean Up)? What about having a stellar open house and inviting important people in our community to really get to know us? The possibilities are endless, we just need our members to step up and say "YES, I can help do that. I believe in what WE do!" If you feel that way - you gotta let us know! Speak up at the meeting and offer your time for a project, talk to a chairman and commit to a role, sign up and SHOW up for an event you find interesting.

What I am trying to get across is what do YOU believe in regarding the Jaycees? I know I'm asking a lot of questions - but if you don't ask them, how do you know what the answer is? Haha, another question. I'm just trying to get my fellow active citizens into thinking.. I told you this from the beginning, I want you to remember what being a Jaycee is to you. You get out of this organization what you put in; you choose. I hope you choose wisely. I know I did, this organization has given me tenfold of what I put into it. I wish you the same results.

Regards and warm hugs,
President Jenna

Want to visit the Jaycees in Hessen Germany this June?

The JCI Twinning Program is a voluntary and reciprocal agreement between national organizations or local organizations in different countries, regions, or cities. The motivation to twin originates from the members in two national or local organizations who wish to establish a mutual understanding and friendship. The objective is to exchange personal visits, ideas, projects, and culture. With modern communication and transportation systems, distance is no longer an obstacle. For this reason, twinning is easier now than ever. The program formally links two or more JCI Organizations and provides a framework for members to participate in other cultures. They forge diverse connections that provide a unique perspective on the increasing interconnectedness of our world. These experiences produce a deep understanding of the importance of diversity and global cooperation. Apply today to be considered for the Twinning program. Want to talk to someone who's been to Germany through the Twinning Program? Sarah Schwefel went in 2011 and Becky Mullane went in 2009.

Terror In April • April 24-25

Hello everyone!

A lot is happening with the Dominion of Terror this year! Terror In April will be open very soon... April 24-25. We are hoping for warm weather and a really good turn out.  We will be having a Zombie Walk on April 18 to help advertise for this event. On this very same day (April 18), we will be hosting a Zombie Brat Fry to help with the cost of maintaining our DOT building. It will take place at Talk of the Town from 11:00am-??. I am looking for donations for this event. If you can spare a bottle of booze, 6 pks or 12 pks of beer, or anything else to raffle, please contact me or bring it to the April chapter meeting. I will have a sign up sheet at the chapter meeting along with times I will need help with for manpower. Contact me if you have any questions. Please stop down for some food and fun!

Keep your eyes open for upcoming DOT meeting dates and other fun events. Happy Halloween!

Tourney of Taverns • Saturday, May 2

Cheers everyone!

The 5th annual Tourney of Taverns is coming up on Saturday, May 2nd. It will be a day filled with friendly competition in various drinking games such as beer pong and tip cup and a few non drinking games such as pool and darts. So start thinking about getting a team of 3 together. The cost is $30 per person. This includes your beer during the games, transportation to all the bars throughout the competition, a hearty meal and all you can drink beer that evening. The theme for our teams is "Classic Games Clash." You can pick what classic game -- video, board, etc -- you want as your team name and dress-up as that game! There will be a prize for the best costume so be creative!

If being on a team doesn't trip your trigger, but you still want to be part of the fun or maybe just watch others compete, then game monitor is the role for you! We still need a few game monitors to watch the players compete and keep score of that game. It is a lot of fun watching how silly people get amidst drinking games! As a monitor you too will get dinner and beer that evening for free. If you would like to be a game monitor let me know. Whatever role you choose, I guarantee you will have a great time!

Registration will be completely online this year and the link will be posted HERE as soon as it is available. The registration deadline is Saturday, April 25.

Brat Days
July 30-Aug. 1 @ Kiwanis Park

Fellow Jaycees,

Thanks to those who joined us thus far to help organize Brat Days, there is still time to get in on the action. Please consider joining the Brat Days Committee as we still have some spots left and can use the help. Most notably, we are looking for someone to train to take on the local parades from Sarah; Mychal could use some help in Main Food food area; and the Corporate VIP Tent needs someone to help setup and host our guests, Becky Mullane will train. Any questions about these positions please let me know or contact Sarah Schwefel for parades or Becky for Corporate VIP Tent.

Our next meeting is Thursday, April 9 at 7PM at Weimann's Sport Bar. Meetings will be the 2nd Thursday of each month at Weimann's. Check us out to see what areas are available or just come to learn more about what it takes to run Brat Days.

We're frequently adding new content to brat-days.com so be sure to view the following links: Please check out the wiki site for minutes of meetings and current and past planning details. Planning goes fast, so get involved early.

Happy Easter everyone. It’s hard to believe it’s already April. I want to start by saying a very big thank you to Jodie Zajkowski for putting on the first of 4 training courses “How to be a good chairperson and put on a good project.” It was a great way to learn the basics and how to succeed and grow with your projects. Stay tuned for the next training class “Leadership basics” before the July chapter meeting.

Dining Club

La Conquistadora is a restaurant that supports Brat Days in a big way by being a vendor in the Brat-Tastic area featuring brat tacos, burritos, and more. So it’s our turn to pay it forward. Please join us Tuesday, April 7th at 6:00pm at La Conquistadora (1218 Indiana Ave, Sheboygan) to give our thanks and support back.

More Upcoming ID events
  • May 7: Appetizer contest at the Chapter Meeting/Open House
  • June TBD: Camping weekend (Chairperson Nina Pfeifer)
  • July 2: "Leadership basics" (6pm before the Chapter Meeting)

Thank you!
Ashley, Mary, and Lee

Participation Incentives

Did you know that every time you run a project, attend a meeting, or participate in our events that you are working your way towards the chance to win fabulous prizes? Throughout the year Ashley Yurk is tracking the participation of all chapter members so that at our banquet in January we convert the points into tickets that can be used to enter into drawings for tons of awesome prizes. We've had prizes such as Coach purses, power tools, tablets, gift cards, gift baskets, and much more. So be sure to sign-in at every meeting or event in order to earn as many points as possible. Click HERE to view the current incentive tracking spreadsheet.

Getting to Know Your Chairperson

  1. State your name: State your name... hehe Julie Ann Turner
  2. What is your Birthday? September 11
  3. How long have you been with the Sheboygan Jaycees? Since September 2012
  4. Tell us a little about your project: This year I am chairing Easter Baskets. The Jaycees donate $500 to make baskets that include the fixings for a meal and treats for the kids. We find families in need and deliver the baskets before Easter. This year Sheboygan County Health and Human Services is providing 15 names of families. Each will get a ham, fixings, treats, and leftover items from our food bank. We will meet March 29th to deliver them.
  5. What was the first project you chaired/would like to chair? The first project I chaired was with Sarah Schwefel, it was Tourney of Taverns. We changed some things up and donated over $1,000 to Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund and about $300 to the Jaycees. At the same time I ran a pet drive for the Sheboygan Humane Society that raised over $500 in donations and supplies.

There is a bunch of exciting things going on in membership!
  1. We added 8 new members in March! Woo Hoo! Lets see how many members we can bring in in April!
  2. We are in the beginning of a 6-month competition with every chapter in our region for membership that includes some kind of pie-throwing at someone on our state board and/or Jenna. They keep adding on to the details but I know we have to win three months or Jenna gets a pie in the face but if we win two months we all get to pie one of our state board members at Mid-Year Convention in La Crosse
  3. I have to say how happy I was to see the attendance of the last two chapter meetings. Very excited about this and we will be continuing to call or text reminders to all of our members.
  4. We are continuing with Chamber Cash as our membership promotion. For every new member that you bring in, we will give you $20 of Chamber Cash. I have quite a few to give out at April's meeting and am looking forward to giving even more out.
But I want to close in saying it isn't only about our new members. We appreciate all of our members. Without you we wouldn't be able to do all that we do. Each and every one of you are important to this organization. So please keep coming to the meetings and keep showing up to events so that we can make a difference.

With that I hope to see everyone at the Chapter Meeting on April 2 at the Quarry View Center!
