Well Hello There Chapter!

Wow, was May ever a month chock full of great Jaycees events or what! All four of our major areas had events for us to volunteer for and participate in. From our very own Tourney of Taverns (Management), to Happy Hour at Horse & Plow (Individual Development), Open House (Membership), and Pitch Hit Run (Community). It brings me great joy to see our members stepping up to help with these events. Thank you for helping to make these events a success! Thank you also to all who took on chairing and organizing these events for us. Your efforts graciously provided us with opportunities to serve our community and to have ourselves some fun.

So you are probably noticing that a topic I tend to focus on a lot in these articles of mine is chairing events. That’s because in all honesty, I find the topic to be of great importance. Organizing an event allows for you to build upon leadership skills and opens doors for those who participate in events to build upon a variety of skills as well. Without events, we wouldn’t have these roads to travel to build ourselves up to be the best we can be. We have plenty of opportunities for chairing and participating in events yet this year, so please do take a look at the Events Listing section attached to every Chapter meeting agenda to see what those upcoming opportunities are.

In fact, I find chairing events to be so important that I stepped up to co-chair the 4th of July Beer Tent with Amanda Kohls. I saw an opportunity to take on a project to build upon organizational skills that I only ever volunteered to help with by signing up for a shift for selling beverages. I felt this would be a great opportunity for me to help Amanda take on a medium level event that will fit well into the schedule of responsibilities I am otherwise fulfilling this year. Watch for a sign-up sheet to circulate at the next Chapter meeting to take on a shift for selling beverages. Please consider taking time to help Amanda and I by taking a short shift on July 4! This particular event has been a successful fundraiser for our Chapter in years past and I am delighted to help facilitate this effort with Amanda to bring in some funds that we can use for future events or maybe even more donations.

Lastly, I’d like to plug an event that many of you look forward to each year; that being the State Mid-Year Convention, September 20-22 in Wausau. Why bring this up now? Because registration is officially open! I’m especially excited about it because for once, I can actually go! In past years, I’ve always had schedule conflicts that prevented me from attending. Well nothing is stopping me this year! My registration is paid for and my hotel room is booked. If you are interested in joining me on going to convention, please let our Chapter’s State Regional  National Director, Mychal Seger, know and he’ll set you up to attend! JCI Wisconsin Raffle – Through June 10th
Only a few days left! Raffle sales go through June 10th! Enter to win Vacation Packages, a Kindle Fire HD, and many more great prizes! Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10 and are sold by the SRN Director (Mychal Seger). Find him at a chapter meeting or email mychalseger@gmail.com to buy tickets. Raffle drawing is Saturday, June 15th 2013.

Pig Out and Batter Up! – August 31st
Enjoy a Pig Roast & Brewers Game with JCI Wisconsin! Meet at Carvetti’s in Lake Geneva on August 31st at 1pm for the buffet, and after head to Miller Park to watch the Brewer’s beat the Angels. Attendees do not have to be Jaycees, so please share this event with your friends, family, coworkers, or anyone else you think might enjoy attending. $40 for the pig roast buffet and game ticket package or $20 for pig roast buffet only. More information from the SRN Director and at upcoming chapter meetings.

Midyear Convention – Weekend of September 20th – 22nd
Looking to network with other Wisconsin Jaycees, take part in forums, and receive more JCI training? Mark your calendar for Midyear Convention, September 20-22nd, in Wausau. Early birds can register and reserve rooms at discount rates before August 20th. Visit

Recycle Rewards Program / Go Green Challenge - Ong
Update: Double points for items turned in at Midyear Convention! So keep ‘em coming and we will fill my car up for the trip to Wausau. Turn in old cell phones and spent printer cartridges to the SRN Director (Mychal Seger) which will then be collected by JCI Wisconsin at State Events. The chapter with the most points earned at the end of 2013 will be recognized with a prize package at Year End Convention!
   Items accepted:
  • Inactive Cell Phones (with Battery) – 1 Point
  • Home and Office Printer Cartridges – 2 Points
  • Laser and Ink Jet Cartridges (Long Plastic Tubes Not Eligible) – 2 Points

Golf Days 2013 is almost ready to tee off! June 17th will be here before we know it!

Before I go any further, I want to take a moment and thank my fantastic committee members - Pam Greger, Kim Roethel, Dustin Stielow and Elizabeth Sullivan. Each of these individuals has done an outstanding job in making Golf Days 2013 the success I know it will be. Thank you for being part of my committee and dedicating your efforts to the project!

Due to the dedicated efforts of my committee - we have secured several generous Hole Sponsors, a lot of fantastic raffle and live auction items, and some outstanding foursomes for the tournament! It is going to be a fantastic day! If you are still interested in putting together a foursome or contributing in some way, please contact me.  We would love to have you join us!

Thanks again not only to my committee, but everyone who has contributed - there are many of you and I truly appreciate your support for Golf Days 2013!

Another TOT has come and gone… the 3rd annual Tourney of Taverns “A Brew Through Time” was a huge success! We had a record 30 teams registered and they truly went all out with great costumes and creative team names. TOT also had record profits, enabling us to donate $1,300 to the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund and $300 to the Sheboygan Jaycees.

We had 8 great sponsor bars this year! A big thank you to 8th St. Ale Haus, Sly’s Midtown Salooon, Penn Ave Pub, Legend Larry’s, Vreeke’s, What’s Up Bar, Frankie’s, and Talk of the Town for not only being sponsor bars but also for donating
raffle items. Thanks to Weimann’s Sport Center for use of their downstairs area, raffle items, and for all of the extras they donated to us. Thanks to Larry’s Distributing, Lakeshore Lanes, Maple Lanes, Monument Music, and Johnsonville who graciously donated items to our event.

Above all else, we were lucky enough to have amazing volunteers, both Jaycees and friends of Jaycees. We deeply appreciate everyone who volunteered as a game monitor! We know that it can sometimes be a very demanding and slightly irritating job, but it is an extremely important part of TOT. Without the game monitors, we couldn’t run this event at all! You all did a wonderful job of running your areas and we cannot thank you enough! We also appreciate everyone who helped with set up, food, travel, clean up, etc. This is what being a Jaycee is all about!

A special thanks to our committee members Shellie Dontje and Kelly Fairchild for all of the hard work and hours that you put in. The 2013 Tourney of Taverns had a few minor snags but in the end was well received and a whole lot of fun! Memories and friends were made, and two great organizations will benefit!

Hey all! Exciting news to share with you all WE HAVE AN UPDATED WEBSITE!! www.dominionofterror.com Alex Bennington of Pixel Poison Designs in Sheboygan graciously devoted many hours to updating our site. I think it looks awesome! Please check it out and let me know how it looks!

Other than that - construction has been going great. Lots of good progress. I am very proud of all our of room builders. Come down and take a look some night. We are open Monday-Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Weeknights we are open at 6pm and weekends at 12pm. And a FYI - 75 construction hrs gets you an awesome long sleeve shirt and on designated BIG WORK days, I will count double hours for however long you worked that day :)

Hello Sheboygan Jaycees! 

Summer weather is finally here, which means that the Individual Development area will be slowing down a little bit in the next several months to let you enjoy the grillouts, kick-off parties, and other chapter activities that are planned in this busy season.

Not to worry though, we still have quite a few things planned for the upcoming months!

The whitewater rafting trip which was originally scheduled for next month will have to be postponed due to rapidly dropping water levels on the Wolf River. Stay tuned for the re-scheduled date.

The next dining club will be at El Camnio on Wednesday, June 12th starting at 6 p.m. Come join us fosome authentic Mexican cuisine, margaritas, and rooftop seating.
The July family picnic is fast approaching. Eric Lueck (leuckeric@gmail.com) is still looking for several people to help him set up the event and man the grills for the cookout. Please contact him if you are interested. We will also be holding the annual chapter appetizer contest at the July Picnic. Please contact Elizabeth Sullivan if you are interested in participating.

As always, please remember to remind the chairperson of any chapter event/project/activity you attend to take attendance and send it to the ID team. Thank you to all the Jaycees, Roosters, and Guests who attended our Open House on May 2 before the Chapter Meeting. We inducted two new members that night: welcome Becca and Scott! And a special thanks to Mayor Mike Vandersteen for speaking to the group about the benefits of being a Jaycee! It was great to see new people who are interested in developing their leadership skills, building their network, helping the community, and of course having fun!

Friends of the Sheboygan Jaycees

Hi everyone!

The annual meeting for the Friends of the Sheboygan Jaycees will be held Thursday, June 6th, 2013. Each member in good standing of the Sheboygan Jaycees is a member of the Friends. The Board of Directors is as follows:

  • Jackie Quasius- President
  • John Ader - Vice President
  • Jan Skala - Secretary
  • Brian Gensch - Treasurer
  • Hilary Hawley - Director

The elections of the Board are to be held at the annual meeting. This year we have two (2) vacant spots on the Board of Directors to fill as John Ader and Jackie Quasius’ terms have come to a close. Those who qualify to be on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Sheboygan Jaycees must be a member in good standing of the Sheboygan Jaycees for at least 2 years and have served as a director on a board of any non-profit for at least one year. Aged out members/life-time members of the Sheboygan Jaycees may be on the Board of the Friends. You may not be on the Sheboygan Jaycee Foundation Board at the same time you are on the Board of the Friends. You may be on the Sheboygan Jaycee Board and the Friends Board at the same time. Nominations can be taken off the floor that night, but it would be great if we had anyone interested on being on the Board on the ballot ahead of time. Please let me know if you are interested in being on the ballot this year for the Friends of the Jaycees. Looking forward to seeing all of you in June!
