Hello Jaycees!

I’ve talked many times about how we better ourselves by being Jaycees. I want to dig deeper into how you go about bettering yourself in this organization. It takes some work and some walking outside of your comfort zone. You don’t just pay your membership. That’s like paying for a gym membership and expecting weight loss when you haven’t really worked out much or eaten any better. You need to put the work in. Challenge yourselves. Chair an event or man a position that’s different for you. Speak in front of people and make phone calls to the movers and shakers of our city. Take advantage of the opportunities that the Jaycees give you. You can then apply everything you’ve learned to your career/daily life.

I mentioned at our last meeting how impressed I was with our Jaycee turnout during our recent events (Food Bank, Easter Baskets, and Lunch with Bunny). We’ve had plenty of help lately making our projects run nice and smooth. Let's keep this train rolling and continue helping out during our upcoming projects!

As always keep up the good work folks!

President/Burpee King Nick Schmitz

Attention all Sheboygan Jaycees

The Sheboygan Jaycees Foundation is looking to fill three director positions. As a Sheboygan Jaycee you are also a member of the Sheboygan Jaycees Foundation; the general purpose of the Foundation is to assist and advise the Sheboygan Jaycees as needed, to screen and elect chairman for Brat Days, plus act on any request that comes before them.
To qualify be a director on the Foundation you need to meet the following criteria:
  • Have been a member of the Sheboygan Jaycees for at least three years
  • Served as a director for any nonprofit organization for two years in which one year has been in an officer position
  • Are not currently serving as a director on the Friends of the Jaycees board
If elected you would serve a 3-year term on the Foundation board. The Foundation board meets approximately two to three times a year or as the need arises.
You can turn in your letter of intent and qualifications to any foundation board member, or mail (Tim Harrison; 1845 Bobolink Ave; Grafton, WI 53024) or e-mail (thair237@gmail.com) it to me. The election will take place at the chapter meeting on June 2nd.
Letters need to be delivered to myself or any Foundation director by May 26th.
Tim Harrison

At the April 7 chapter meeting we had a presentation from Angie and Ryan Shaw about the Sheboygan Park Project. This is a playground that will be constructed in Sheboygan that will be accessible to children of all abilities. The project began over 7 years ago and during that time has gone through a number of obstacles, but is getting back on track towards making this playground a reality. I am proud to announce that the Friends of the Sheboygan Jaycees have joined in partnership with the Sheboygan Park Project as a means to enable tax-exempt donations from the community. There are a lot of exciting things on the horizon for this project, so be sure to follow facebook.com/SheboyganParkProject for updates.

Brat Days • August 4-6

Three committee meetings left till Brat Days 2016! Wow!!! We have roughly three months until the event is here!

As some of you heard at the last committee meeting, the City of Sheboygan is planning to build a new skate park down at Kiwanis. Joe Kerlin, Superintendent of Parks & Forestry, joined our meeting last month to provide us with details and ask for our input on the location of the new park. Construction will begin this fall, so although the changes will not affect Brat Days 2016, there could be some necessary layout changes for 2017. Stay tuned!

Other updates -- we have a BRAND NEW parade route for 2016! In collaboration with City officials, this new route was created to accommodate the variety of activities taking place in Sheboygan on the busy morning of Saturday, August 6. And best of all, we are thrilled that the parade concludes at Kiwanis Park! Check out the new route and share the information. We are also accepting applications for the Charity Challenge.

News this week -- Johnsonville will not be having their company picnic down at Brat Days this year. We are working to determine how this will or will not affect Family Area. Join us at the next meeting to learn more!

Finally, my final update! This year's t-shirt color is IRISH GREEN!!!

Interested in learning more about Brat Days or becoming more involved in the planning and decision making? Join us at our next meeting on Thursday, May 12th at 7PM at Holiday's Pub & Grill!

Looking forward to great brats and music!!!

Hope everyone is having a great year! Just a few reminders that There is an appetizer contest at the June Chapter meeting! I Think I said that there would be the contest at the May Chapter meeting but I would rather do it in June! So I have more time to prepare! So make sure if you would like to bring in something to make you have a little over a month to do it! Looking forward to that! Also I am planning a special dining club a little later this year so stay tuned for more details as they come! Lastly, There will be some talk about going to a brewer game and tailgating! Let me know if you are interested in this idea!

Hello everyone. We are in the middle of second quarter. The deadline for the second quarter is the end of May. We will be reminding anyone who hasn’t paid by that time. New member orientation went great in April, but as always, if you have any questions please let us know. If you would like to have a quick guide on how to set up for your passport, I don’t mind walking you through that at any time as well.

I would like to give a big welcome to our new member Brandon. He joined at the April meeting. Please introduce yourself when you see him around.
