Greetings Chapter!

What a month that August shaped up to be – for all of us! A major event, a new event, and high octane outdoor adventures. We truly are a chapter that embraces being dynamic and being willing to just dive in and try something new, even if it scares us just a bit. When times change, we face the accompanying challenges head on and overcome them. When new and exciting opportunities arise, we embrace them and gain memorable experiences that we cherish forever. These are just some of the reasons I am so proud to be a member of our Chapter.
So what am I referring to specifically for this past month? In regards to overcoming the challenges of changing times, I think what immediately comes to all of our minds is Brat Days. Tim Harrison, this year’s Brat Days Chairperson, had the formidable foresight to recognize that times and trends have changed to the point where the event was in great need of transformation. Tim was forthright in leading the taking of a bold leap to transform Brat Days into a more profitable and crowd accommodating format. Taking this leap did not come without its fair share of conflicts, obstacles, costs, and challenges. With plenty of blood, sweat and tears invested, Brat Days launched. With a BANG. Record attendance, boon in sales, substantial entertainment – all this occurred because Tim, the Brat Days Committee, and the rest of the Chapter stood up to make this one of the most successful years in the history the event. Congratulations to Tim for stepping up and never backing down on his vision for the event transformations. Tim’s perseverance paid off in a big way. I was moved to see the Committee and the Chapter support Tim on his vision. That’s what we do – we support each other and just look what happens; the success of an event we can all be proud of for we all had a hand in making Brat Days as successful as it was.
Then there’s the two new events we had – Chalk  It Up as headed up by Mari Rose and the Wildman Adventure trip organized by Jan Skala, Carmen Courtright, and Elizabeth Sullivan. With both of these events, we embraced new experiences unlike any we pursued before. Mari saw an opportunity to partner with the Sheboygan Visual Artists to help with a most unique sidewalk chalk art contest. I’m willing to bet that most of us never knew that such a type of competition even existed. Thanks to Mari, now we do know there is such a thing. We had a blast selling beverages and observing what these chalk artist competitors are capable of. Jan, Carmen, and Elizabeth, adventurist extraordinaires, sought for us to do something on a truly exciting scale; white water rafting, rock climbing, and other such adventurous activities. For those of us that went, we now have life experiences under our belts like no others do.
Where else but from being a member of The Sheboygan Jaycees can you get all of these kinds of invaluable experiences and build upon significant personal growth on such a grand scale? I can think of no other organization that is capable of providing what we do. I sincerely believe we all cherish being a Sheboygan Jaycee for these very reasons, among others. I am so glad to see so many of us stepping up to be active in our Chapter and truly make a difference in other’s lives and in their own lives. We have yet more great events coming up to support, including two I know we are all anxiously looking forward to helping with - the new Glo Run event and Dominion of Terror. Let’s all get behind Kim Roethel for Glo Run and Jenna Fanslau for Dominion of Terror to help make these events just as insanely successful as Brat Days. Together, I know we can. Keep up the formidable work, everyone. There’s a reason we are the best Chapter in the state. It’s because our Chapter is teeming with people who embody pure ambition to be the best we can be, for ourselves and most importantly for each other. BANG.

Hey there!
The DOT is a large project to run and to do so successfully, it takes a lot of help from our volunteers. It gains to be a huge money maker for the chapter. But we can't do it without Jaycee help. I urge you to come be a part of this project to see what it is about. Remember we are putting this on to 1) donate back to our community 2) earn money for our chapter to sustain other projects and donations and 3) have fun!
Important Dates:
1) Last General Planning Meeting is September 12th at 6:30pm at the DOT. Come see what progress we are at!
2) We need your help! Could use some extra hands to paint, haul, and staple. Can you manage a couple hours? We are open Monday thru Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Weeknights at 6 and weekends at 12. An hour or two will make a huge difference in a Room Builder's life :)
3) Monster Training 101 - interested in acting? or do you just want to watch a hilarious training video? Jodie Zajkowski put together a brand-new training session. It's mandatory for anyone wanting to act, but all are welcome to check out the NEW video. September 15th at 1pm and September 19th at 6:30pm at the DOT.
We are having a Work Day Saturday, September 21st for our LAST PUSH starting at noon. Not only will you get time and a half DOT Hours counted, but Jan has graciously allowed you TRIPLE Jaycee Incentive points for that day too! That's a CRAZY DEAL and something you should not miss.

Hello Sheboygan Jaycees!

Summer may be slowly winding down, but the ID team is still hard at work to organize as many outdoor activities as possible for our chapter members while the weather is nice.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Wildman Adventure Trip on Saturday August 24th!  We will be posting pictures of the trip on Facebook once we’ve had a chance to organize them.

We will be holding a teambuilding and high ropes course at Camp Y-Koda on Saturday September 14th.  The course is designed to help participants work better together as a team.  We will spend several hours on a high ropes course designed and supervised by the Camp Y-Kodastaff. There is no fee for  this event.

Join us for Dining Club at Anglers Avenue Pub and Grill (510 S. Pier Drive) on Wednesday, Sept 11th.  Anglers Avenue is a new pub/grill on the Sheboygan waterfront, specializing in homemade pub and seafood fare.  Drinks at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

Finally, a reminder that the Dominion of Terror will be opening its doors in just a few weeks!  Jenna Fanslau and the rest of the DOT crew are looking for help in finishing up the house and getting it ready for patrons.  Once the DOT opens, the crew is also looking for chapter members to come help run the House throughout the month of October.  Each day that you help with DOT construction counts for two participation points; each day that you help with running the House counts for three participation points.  Stop by the House, help us put on a great chapter project, and rack up some points to win great prizes at the end of the year!

A big shout out to Tim Harrison, the Brat Days committee, and everyone who helped with Brat Days! It was great to see all so many people put together on such a big project, that is truly the essence of what it means to be a Sheboygan Jaycee. This event is one of the biggest reflections of who we are and how the community sees us. We always have to remember that we are representing our organization and we want everyone to see how awesome it is to be a Jaycee! That's why I asked all of you to wear an "Ask Me How To Join" button during the event. I hope this button helped to spark conversation with new people and perhaps you reflected on what it was like when you first joined the Jaycees. Why did you join? Think about that and share your story with your friends and co-workers, you can be inspirational!

We are all ambassadors of this organization and we want to see it continue to thrive. This can only happen by building our membership base and keeping recruitment front of mind. With that, I encourage to you please invite your friends, family members, and co-workers to the upcoming chapter meeting by sending them the following link: facebook.com/events/155010468036112

2014 Sheboygan Jaycees Chapter Board of Directors Election

Jaycee Friends,

It is time for the 2014 Sheboygan Jaycees Chapter Board of Directors Elections.  With the By-Law change last year, the September Chapter meeting is now the time to elect the Board for next year.  Brian Gensch will become Chairman of the Board, beyond his control, and 4 Directors plan to fulfill the remainder of their 2 year term.  The remaining spots on the Board are an opportunity to get involved either by running yourself or electing your favorite Jaycees to the Board.

This is my sixth year on our local Jaycee Chapter Board, and I can attest that it is a great opportunity to sharpen your leadership skills and learn more about your fellow Jaycees.  Most people cannot say all that about attending a monthly meeting in a bar.

The 2014 calendar year elections will be held for President; Treasurer; Secretary; Vice Presidents of Management, Individual, Community, and Membership; State Regional National Director, and 4 Directors (2-year seats).  Traditionally, 4 Vice Presidents, as well as the 4 Directors, are elected and assigned to one of the four areas.  Of course, everyone’s preferences are taken into consideration.  Officers must be members in good standing for 3 months prior to election.  Terms limits may apply, and in this case they do.  President is limited to no more than 1 year and the Vice Presidents, Secretary.

If you have any questions about elections, please let me or Brian know.
