KCISS Updates: April 20th - April 26th, 2020 

COVID-19 & Advising

The Kearney Center for International Student Services is operating on a virtual basis starting March 17, 2020, due to COVID-19.  You may contact a staff person via email and they will follow-up with you. 

advising hours will be held online in the following hours:

Dan: 8 – 10 AM

Erika: 10 AM – 1 PM

Jordan: 1 PM – 3 PM

Alissa: 3 PM – 4 PM

Update Your Address

Students: please ensure your current address is up-to-date in e-services.  You are required by USCIS to update the University within ten days of any change to your address and the University is required to update your SEVIS record within 21 days of the change.  


Maverick Global Ambassador - Application is Open

Are you looking for a fun and interactive way to fulfill your CCS requirement next year? Are you looking for a leadership opportunity to boost your resume? Apply to be a Maverick Global ambassador!

The MGA program is opening applications for the upcoming year, and we are looking for hard-working students who would like to join us! The MGAs' primary responsibility is to act as an active resource on the KCISS social media platforms and inform students about campus resources and provide tips for prospective and current international students. Some of the work includes shooting informative videos, participating in online webinars, and writing blog posts about life at MNSU.

Immigration Updates



Please make sure to check the Kearney Center website for the latest updates, questions, and concerns about COVID-19. 
  • Withdrawals: The official last day to withdraw from classes this Spring 2020 semester is Monday, April 27, 2020. Please note that this has recently changed. If you are thinking of withdrawing from a course this semester, it is important to not only consult with your Faculty Advisor, but also your Immigration Advisor regarding this matter.
  • Currently Working From Home? Here is a quick read that talks about “9 different ways to stay productive when you work from home!”
  • Know your I-20 End Date: With the end of the semester approaching we would like to remind F-1 students to be aware of the end date on your I-20. If you are finishing your program, congratulations!! F-1 students have a 60-day grace period following your program end date. During the 60-day grace period you have the following options:
    • Apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT)
    • Begin a new program of study at Minnesota State, Mankato
    • Transfer to a new school
    • Change your immigration status to a different visa type
    • Depart the United States
  • You can find your program end date on the first page of your I-20. The end date is circled in red on the example of the I-20 (see below)


Campus Updates


Optional Pass/No-Credit (P/NC) Grading and Withdraw Deadline for Spring 2020 Courses: Students have the opportunity to choose a Pass/No-Credit grading method for classes this semester that were not completed prior to March 16, 2020. Please review the information and resources available at before making a decision about changing a course grading method. Instructions and a video demonstrating how to change a course grading method is available on the web site. We strongly encourage you to consult with your advisor and your instructors prior to Friday April 24, so you are able to make the best possible decision for your situation. There is no reason to hurry in making a decision, so please consult and consider carefully your options. All Pass/No-Credit grade method changes need to be completed within e-Services by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.

Remote Access to a Doctor! When MSU Health Services is closed, you have a remote option through your insurance plan to talk to a doctor.  It is HealthiestYou Telehealth.  1-855-870-5858    You will need your insurance ID number which is on your card or your account with UHC Student Resources.  This is free for anybody on UHCSR.    To access your card, go to    This is a great option for nights, weekends, winter break or when you are traveling.

COVID-19 Hotline: If you have concerns about COVID-19 (coronavirus), please call the student health services hotline at (507) 389-5591 to discuss your symptoms. They also have a COVID self-check on your Patient Portal to enter symptoms and receive advice.  If it has been determined that you should be tested for COVID-19, the International Student Insurance is waiving any deductible or copay costs.
