 Nominations for the BIOP Inaugural Board of Directors are now being accepted. The deadline to submit nominations and all supporting documentation is Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:59pm eastern time.

Nominee Criteria:
  • Current member of Blacks in I/O in good standing
  • Proven leadership experience (graduate leadership experience will be considered)
  • Availability and commitment to participate in all Board meetings and willingness to devote an estimated 3-5 hours weekly to the strategic efforts of the organization. 
  • Ability to comply with the Board's Code of Conduct
  • Previous philanthropic or volunteer experience
  • Integrity and high ethical standards
  • Ability to work in diverse group settings
  • Demonstrated ability to think innovatively and strategically

Speaking Opportunity 

 
 The CUNY I-O Practitioners Network (CUNY IOP Network) is a group of administrators within the City University of New York who specialize and/or are interested in the application of Industrial-Organizational (I-O) psychology to higher education administration.

Their hope is to further educate administrators at the City University of New York (CUNY) on I-O psychology theories, practices, and research. With all the recent DEI talks at CUNY, the CUNY I-O Practitioners Network is seeking professionals like you facilitate a discussion on “Why unconscious bias training isn’t enough.” 

The format for this discussion is as follows:
  • 45 mins (30 min talk followed by 15 Q&A)
  • Zoom (recorded for those who can’t attend to view)

Below are some available dates/times:
  • Oct. 4th, 6th, 12th – 15th, 18th, 20th, 26th – 29th  (anytime between 10am-5pm, ET)
  • Oct. 7th & 21st (anytime between 12pm-5pm. ET

Derek James is an I/O Professional whose origins started as a seasoned IT professional with fortune 500 companies. Derek shifted from analyzing technology to analyzing the navigation of career development for BIPOC professionals.  As his career progresses, he identifies organizational deficiencies and proposes areas of improvement.

He is a PhD Candidate in I/O Psychology and holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science and a M.S. in Psychology. He also serves as the head coach for bowling at Stony Brook University where he specializes in physical and mental game development. 

Derek has a love for seafood, sushi, and travel and loves to combine them all when possible.
