Welcome To The NurseGrown Newsletter!

With 4/20 and Earth Day having just passed, Nurses Week and Mothers Day up ahead, and the spring weather finally starting to break here in Vermont, we have so many reasons to celebrate!

The start of the season is always an exciting time for us! And it always puts me in mind of one of my favorite quotes from someone who was more of a spiritual farmer than an in-the-soil farmer, but it still holds true for me, every time I read it:

Every leaf that grows will tell you: what you sow will bear fruit, so if you have any sense my friend, don’t plant anything but Love.
— Rumi

We hope you too are planting seeds of hope, joy and love!

Farm News

The season of outdoor planting is upon us once again, and it's time to start our seeds.  The greenhouse had its annual wash and cleanse along with all our pots and trays and we are excited to pull the seed planting trigger.

Our weather has been a bit erratic as of late, from the mid 70’s to 6” of snow 2 days later so we’re holding out just a few more days as we always prefer to not run any supplemental heat and keep our carbon footprint as low as possible.

We’re excited yet again to be supporting Oregon CBD as our seed supplier and all I can say about this year’s crop is...SOUR!!! We will keep you posted as we get underway. We wouldn’t be doing this without your support, so THANK YOU!

SInce there aren't any exciting pictures yet to see, here is the NurseGrown Organics Farm Security Team for your viewing pleasure!

My favorite product, is the Deeply Rooted massage oil. I use this when I do the hand and arm massage during my facials. I have used Young Living essential oils for over 18 years and have never experienced an oil like this. The aroma changes on everyone. It is almost like an adaptogenic fragrance. So Cool!

Nurse Philosophy

Cannabis nursing is much more than the medicine itself. Cannabis nursing is a holistic lifestyle choice to improve one's health and encourage others to attain "higher" states of being. It's never too late to begin the journey of achieving your dream of becoming a cannabis nurse!

Picking F.L.O.W.E.R.S.
by Jessilyn Dolan

The most common question I get from both medical professionals and consumers looking for hemp, CBD, and cannabis (aka marijuana) products is: “What do I need to know to pick the best products?”

I prefer to talk about conscious and clean cannabis and all that entails in my personal world, and educate, rather than recommend specific products.

I often use the acronym F.L.O.W.E.R.S. to help people remember and know how to pick the absolute best flowers and cannabis (especially medical marijuana) products possible! But it all circles back, always, to conscious cannabis.

Read more about choosing conscious cannabis on our blog.

Cannabis Nurse Testimonial

Personal anecdote from a cannabis nurse as a product testimonial for her Mother as we head towards Mother's Day!

I don't feel bad throwing these pills. Mom has been totally off Gabapentin for intractable pain, thanks to the healing magic of CBD! Additionally, she's down to one anti-hypertensive pill, & minus diuretic.

Terpene Tuesday: Geraniol
Susan Lyn - Vermont Cannabis Nurses Association, Vice President

The unique synthesis of geraniol is from within honey bees, who produce it in their scent glands as both a marker for nectar-bearing fruits and as a territorial mechanism to thwart off potentially dangerous colonies from creating a hive or taking over a pollination site. Thank you bees!

AROMA/FLAVOR: Citrus, sweet rose scent

EFFECTS: Relaxation, drowsiness, said to decrease inhibition

Nurse Herbal Tips - Violet

As spring arrives, one of our sweetest smelling, and quite shy, flowers appears low to the ground. Sweet violet (viola odorata) is a tasty edible that freely grows among gardens, lawns and forests. Her leaves are a nutritious and tasty addition to salads and can also be used in tincture form as a gentle lymphatic.

Violet leaves are high in Vitamins A and C and have demulcent properties that can soothe an inflamed or irritated digestive tract. The purple (or sometimes white) flowers have a strong perfume scent and a delicious flavor.

The flowers can be added to salads, as decorations for cakes and other pastries, and if you have a nice patch, they make a lovely purple syrup! Violets only flower in the spring so keep an eye to the ground and try adding her into your life.
