Today, we are opening the application for the FAIRplus Fellowship Programme! We invite scientists, data managers, IT experts and anyone working with life science data, to apply for our training programme on FAIR data principles and best practices in FAIR data management.

The programme will cover all aspects of FAIR data, from legal and ethical questions to technical implementation and deposition.

We’ve worked hard to prepare a comprehensive curriculum tailored to the needs of life science researchers. The FAIRplus Fellows will use their own FAIRification problems to learn on the job, under the guidance of our FAIR data experts.

Apply to become FAIRplus Fellow

We are launching the applications for the FAIRplus Fellowship Programme. Researchers, data scientists or data managers from organisations affiliated with FAIRplus can now apply for the FAIRplus Fellowship Programme.

The FAIRplus Fellowship Programme is a comprehensive training programme in FAIR data management. The programme will run for eight months, starting in April 2020. After completing the programme, the fellows will have the confidence to lead, advise and initiate FAIR data processes in their respective companies and organisations.

The deadline for applications is on Monday 2 November 2020, the training programme will start in April 2021.

The value of FAIR data

The EU’s Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) has published a series of communications materials, showcasing the value and benefits of FAIR data for pharmaceutical research. The latest IMI newsletter also featured FAIRplus and its resources: the FAIRplus cookbook and the FAIRplus Fellowship programme.

We are very proud to be featured in the campaign and in the opinion piece by the IMI Executive Director Pierre Meulien, highlighting FAIRplus activities in promoting the FAIR data practices and changing the culture of data management in life science research.

Harmonising complex datasets, whatever their source (...) and encouraging their reuse, not only reduces duplication in research efforts; it allows us to raise the bar on the quality, as well as the equality, of healthcare across Europe.

Lessons learnt from data FAIRification: the case of eTOX

Members of the FAIRplus Squad team presented their experience from the FAIRification of the eTOX pre-clinical findings data. In a webinar organised for the members of the eTRANSAFE consortium, Vasilios Ioannidis (SIB) and Francesco Ronzano (IMIM) presented the FAIRification process of the eTOX data and discussed their experience.

The webinar gave opportunity to researchers from the eTRANSAFE projects, which follows up on the work of eTOX, to learn about the different steps in the FAIRification process and initiated a discussion about transferring some of the lessons learnt to the eTRANSAFE research.

The eTOX dataset was selected for FAIRification in 2019 and is now accessible through the IMI FAIR Data Catalogue. The experience of the Squad teams is also described in the FAIR cookbook, see the eTOX experience recipe.

Save the date: Second FAIRplus Innovation and SME event

Save the date! The second FAIRplus Innovation and SME Forum will take place on 13 January 2021. It will present and review the activities of the project in 2020 and provide opportunities for researchers, data scientists and IT experts to discuss the challenges in adopting FAIR data principles in pharmaceutical companies, SMEs and academia.
