News from Ukraine: Organic Standard chooses bioC.
Organic Standard, the largest organic certification body active in Ukraine, has published the certificates of its operators on bioC, the Global Organic Certification Directory. This represents 70% of the certified organic production in Ukraine and makes a significant contribution to the transparency and credibility of Ukrainian organic products being traded. Stakeholders are now able to validate and track, in real time, the certification status of these operators and their products. This milestone achievement by Organic Standard helps mitigate risk in the supply chains with which it is involved and provides greater assurance to importers of organic raw materials of Ukrainian origin.
The integration of Organic Standard’s data into www.bioC.info was supported by the project ConsCert, which is financially supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and implemented by FiBL.
bioC is an initiative by the organic sector for the organic sector, with the objective of deterring fraud, creating efficiencies for certification bodies and businesses, and increasing transparency for all stakeholders including consumers, governments, CBs, and traders. IFOAM – Organics International advocates for the uptake of bioC globally and works with bioC and its partners to continuously enhance its effectiveness and advantages.
IFOAM – Organics International encourages other international CBs to follow Organic Standard’s example and publish their data on bioC.info. Currently bioC counts more than 70,000 certificates online, with the number steadily growing. The overall effectiveness and benefits of the platform increasing the more data that is available: traders and CBs alike get increased assurance, efficiency, and cost savings.
