Strands is brought to you by Matt & Alex & Preeti & Oskar & Frances & Dave & Lizzie & Sam & Polly, Smoking Goat, East London hangs, picklebacks, Shoryu ramen, a wonderful dinner party with far too much wine (isn't that the way it always goes?!), lunch with Warc, coffee with LearnFest, family dinner, Kinder eggs, and one more gig before we head off to Mexico for some warmth and R&R.
We've been thinking a lot about binaries recently, and how they apply to the world of advertising/media/marketing. Evangelists vs Contrarians. Young vs. Old. Male vs Female. Conservatism vs. Progressivism. The thing is, it's like Nature v. Nurture. It's not either, but it's more than both that is interesting: It's the interaction between the two together. So tell us, any binaries you've been thinking about lately?
Quote of the Week "Love is minimalism. Desire, possession, and control are not minimalism. Minimalism of things? No. Minimalism of fear, anxiety, stress, mourning. If anything, the more you accomplish, the more you can afford to get rid of the things society uses to hold you down.” — James Altucher, on minimalism
How Minimalism Brought Me Freedom And Joy
#Minimalism #SeekHappiness #LessStuff
Previously we shared a perspective from Drew Austin on how Amazon is trying to turn you into a constant customer. Now an alternate perspective from James Altucher. He wrote this piece several years ago about living a life of minimalism -- and there are some great learnings in there, whether or not you want to get rid of all your stuff and hit the road :) Like him, we choose experiences over goods and information. ::MEDIUM::
Why Education Should Be More Like Bike Riding
#ForeverLearning #PonderingThis #ChangeIsAGoodThing
Love this thought experiment of how we might teach kids to ride bikes if we were using a traditional education system. Let's change the norms. ::ISAAC MOREHOUSE::
The Future Has Looked The Same for 40 Years
#Future #Vision #CorporateDystopia
The originally rebellious counter culture vision of cyberpunk solidified into orthodoxy even it has seemingly come true. If we are going to move forward, we need new ideas about the future. ::THE GUARDIAN::
