  • Neighborhood Sustainability Meetings Scheduled for January-  East West Gateway is hosting meetings for January and February to hear feedback from residents on neighborhood sustainability projects.  For a complete schedule and more information click here.
  • Mayor Slay Expands Workforce Goals for contractors- Mayor Slay issued an executive order regarding workforce participation goals for tax increment financing projects of $1 million or more which went into effect immediately. For more information click here.  
  • Four Areas chosen for Kresge assistance- The Kresge steering committee agreed upon four areas that will receive the embedded arts grant for program discovery and funding to existing programs.  For the more information click here.
  • Congressman Ellison Proposes Affordable Housing Bill - Congressman Ellison seeks to replace the Mortgage Deduction Interest bill to increasing affordable housing funding.  To read a draft of this proposal click here
  • Mortgage Companies Reach New Agreement with the OCC and Federal Reserve-  The OCC and the Federal Reserve Board enforcement action requires mortgage companies to make cash payment of $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion in mortgage assistance to borrowers.  For more information click here.

  • Neighborhood Funding Workshop- The Nonprofit and Leadership Program at UMSL hosts this event on January 26 to provide tools and techniques to those needing funding to finance neighborhood projects.  For more information click here.
  • Planning and Zoning Certificate Program-UMSL is offering the planning and zoning certificate program beginning January 10.  For more information click here.
  • Neighborhood Leadership Academy- The Neighborhood Leadership Academy offers 10 sessions from Feb-May 2013 geared toward individuals actively involved in various aspects of community development. Conferences and Seminars

  • 12th Annual New Partners for Smart Growth Conference- The New Partners for Smart Growth focuses on identifying strategies to create more sustainable regions. This conference will be held on February 7-9 at the Kansas City Convention Center.  For more information on this conference click here.

Funding Opportunities

  • Community Arts Grant- Our Town is offering grants to fund placemaking projects that increase livability within communities by using the arts.  The deadline for this grant is January  14.  For more information click here.
  • Economic Assistance Programs- The EDA has funds available for both rural and urban communities for ideas and strategies to increase economic conditions in distressed areas.  For more information click here.
