I hope this email finds you well. The pandemic has turned everyone’s life upside down and has presented huge challenges to young people, their families and the educators who serve them. Ironically, these pandemic times also give us a great opportunity to transform education in our state, and ALL4SC has been working with school partners to offer immediate support to students and teachers.

I am pleased to share a very quick summary of ALL4SC’s successes to date as we continue our work to prototype a coherent Zero to Workforce system of education in South Carolina and figure out innovative ways for our University to assist our highest need schools.

Over the last year, close to two dozen faculty have worked with us and our school partners in Fairfield, Marlboro and Berkeley counties. I am reaching out to you today because you had previously shown interest in ALL4SC’s work. As we begin to expand and deepen our partnership work, I am eager to learn more how your expertise could play a part in this journey.

We are preparing an updated compendium of faculty talent for the Whole Child Education Consortium we are establishing with our three partner counties and five schools - Fairfield Elementary, Fairfield Middle, Marlboro High School, McColl Elementary Middle School and JK Gourdin Elementary.

Beginning in mid-April, educators and community members representing the five schools will begin work to help design a community school model that is unique to them and informed by strategic community engagements. This builds on the visioning completed in the fall that identified several key service needs as focal points for the first stage of model development and implementation.

  1. Design of an integrated student data system to identify and provide wraparound services

  2. Broader engagement of students to be part of a supportive accountability mentorship initiative

  3. Social and emotional support for students through use of common SEL curriculum and support for educators

  4. Expansion of early childhood resources, including professional development and support for and access to career pathways for early childhood educators in partnership with districts and regional technical colleges

  5. Promoting post-secondary readiness through project-based learning units anchored to place and careers to prepare South Carolina  students for the Future of Work

We would welcome your input and participation in our next steps. Please complete this short form to let us know how your expertise can help.

Thank you,
Barnett
