In early May, the President of NSTA issued a statement titled Grand Challenges for Science Education: Starting the Conversation.  We encourage everyone to read the statement and start discussions around these challenges.

NOVA Education taking us Out of This World

Are you looking for some new ideas about how to incorporate astrobiology into your classroom? NOVA has developed a Finding Life Beyond Earth Education Collection consisting of seven activities and accompanying video excerpts from NOVA's "Finding Life Beyond Earth" program. New Educational Resource - Academy of Natural Sciences' Bicentennial

The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University is the oldest natural science research institution and museum in the North America. Located in Philadelphia, PA, the institution celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2012. As part of a year-long bicentennial celebration, an online supplement to the museum’s bicentennial exhibit was created in Google Earth with a series of educational activities, targeted for middle school science educators and students. The week-long curriculum is based off of the Google Earth file and is supported by the Earth Science Literacy Initiative, the ABCD model for writing learning objectives, the effective pedagogies Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning, and the Pennsylvania State Science Education Standards.  To view the materials, please visit:

Hurricane season decided not to wait until June 1st this year to kick-off!  To help you find the best quality sources, we have a new set of informative websites about Hurricanes on Diigo.  Be sure to explore our suggested list of content, images, video, and curricular materials from sources such as NOAA, NASA, and National Geographic.

Exciting addition to PAESTA meeting - screening of Switch

Keep saving the date for our first PAESTA meeting on Saturday, October 13.  We are adding on the evening before (October 12, 6PM) a special screening of the documentary Switch, exploring the future of energy.  Both events will be held at the Penn State Brandywine campus in Media, PA.  If you would like to be involved in the planning of the PAESTA conference, please contact us at
