EARTH DAY 2012
Although April is a month away, many activities are already taking place to celebrate the Earth!  Think about how you can work with your students to celebrate the 42nd annual Earth Day.

From the American Museum of Natural History, Science Bulletins (LINK) is a collection of free videos, essays, and interactives, with classroom activities designed to connect students to the process of science, highlight overarching scientific themes.

Member Recommendation
PAESTA member Chris Palma recently learned about The Story Behind the Science (LINK), 30 stories across 5 science disciplines where students explore the development of key science concepts through the eyes of the scientists who were involved. Supplemental teacher resources included.

Happy World Water Day 2012!

Be sure to check out the United Nations World Water Day website today and thoughout the year.  Get your students hands-on with the World Water Monitoring Challenge, where students can get hands-on measuring the physical properties of local water bodies.

Recent Earthquake Teachable Moments

Don't forget that IRIS (Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology) does an outstanding job of updating their website immediately when a major earthquake occurs.  Visit their Recent Earthquake Teachable Moments page to find a PowerPoint and animations documeting the March 20 Magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Oaxaca, Mexico!

National Environmental Education Week

April 15-21, 2012 - Focusing this year on the theme “Greening STEM: The Environment as Inspiration for 21st Century Learning,” EE Week connects educators with environmental resources to promote K-12 students’ understanding of the environment.  Visit their website to explore resources: http://eeweek.org/greening_stem
