Health Priorities Chosen

The Cascade Pacific Action Alliance (CPAA) held its first Council meeting on September 11th, 2014 at Summit Pacific Medical Center, in Elma, WA.  This meeting had broad sector representation of approximately 40 participants.  The goal of this meeting was to gather local health priorities from the seven participating counties, as well as priorities from the Medicaid Managed Care plans and Washington State Health Care Authority to identify overlap, energy for action, and to ultimately determine the regional priorities that the CPAA will take action on at both local and regional levels.  In conclusion, there were 4 regional priority areas identified:

•    Access to health care, with a focus on provider capacity,
•    Care coordination/integration,
•    Chronic conditions, to include prevention & management
•    Prevention of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

The Council will meet again on  October 16th at Summit Pacific Medical Center, with a focus on sharing innovative ideas for regional action in these 4 priority areas.  The outcomes of this meeting will set the stage for work to begin amongst the four newly composed work groups that are currently being formed.  If you have not selected a work group but would like to participate, please email or call Laura Johnson at, or 360-539-7576, ext. 118.

Meanwhile, CHOICE continues to provide support at the local level through attendance at local steering committee meetings, community forums, and planning retreats.  Each local forum is in the process of choosing one or more regional priorities to develop local strategies and steps towards action.  Contact Laura if you would like additional help in your community.

Lastly, we continue to learn more from the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) about the Accountable Community of Health (ACH) designation process for next year. Beginning in January 2015, the State will fund and designate 2 pilot ACHs to complete a project within 6 months.  Additionally, Community of Health regions can apply to become what HCA is calling a Design Community. The State has scheduled a meeting November 5th for Community of Health grantees to learn more about the ACH pilot and Design Community application process.
