Why Have an Insurance Agent?

Well that’s an excellent question! Before I answer that question, let me go over your options with purchasing Auto/Home insurance here in the good ‘ol USA. You can get your insurance from a Captive Agent. You know ‘em: State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, American Family and Country Companies to name a few. Not a bad way to go if you fit into the narrow niche of clientele that their company is going after. Second option would be with a Direct Company. Examples include Geico, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, Progressive Direct and Esurance. Once again, these companies have a niche they’re going after, and if you fit, they’re okay. The final option for getting insurance (this is what you have chosen) is with an Independent Agent. As an Independent Agent, we can choose from over 20 companies to find the company that best suits your needs. I would say all of our clients are cost conscious, and if that is your focus, we can certainly oblige. But if you want a bit more coverage, at a reasonable rate or if you really want a “Cadillac” type product, we can help with that too. In addition to shopping for you, we ensure you can always call us for advice and counseling with your insurance needs.

Some have been lead to believe (through billion dollars spent on advertising) that buying without an agent is the cheapest. That simply isn’t true. Some may think they’d be less expensive than other options for insurance because they don’t have to pay a commission to an agent. But they DO have to spend more on marketing and they DO have to spend more on customer service.

One of the companies I represent is Progressive and they offer their policies through both Independent Agents AND Directly through their website and toll free number. They have informed me that they spend approximately the same amount on customer service and marketing for their Direct clients as they do on their commissions they pay their Independent agents. If it was cheaper to buy without an agent, State Farm, Allstate, Farmers (and myself) would be out of business. We get our rates compared to others on a daily basis and our agency continues to grow and we continue to beat the rates of the other companies.

When driverless cars and rapid transit trains take over, you may not need an insurance agent. Until then, go ahead and pat yourself on the back for making the smart and proper choice of choosing First Rate Insurance as your Independent Insurance Agent.
New Faces at First Rate Insurance

As the agency continues to grow, we are excited to announce three new employees at First Rate Insurance.

Stefanie Hegge recently relocated from Yakima, WA where she was born and raised. Stefanie graduated from East Valley High School in 2011, and became a licensed insurance agent in 2015. Stefanie made the move from Yakima to be closer to the abundance of art and music Seattle has to offer. Stefanie does love making trips to her hometown on the weekends to spend time with her young niece and nephew, who she spoils at any chance she gets. She also loves spending time with her two role models, her older sisters. Outside of work and spending time with her family, Stefanie can be found at the closest music festival or show. Summer activities are definitely her preference, anything out in the sun by the water draws her near. Floating, boating or sightseeing are some of her favorites. And just for the record, she was raised as a Seahawks fan. *GO HAWKS*!

Sarah Snyder is one of our new agents located in the Kirkland office. Sarah was born and raised in Bothell and graduated from Inglemoor High School “Go Viks”!  Sarah is a newly licensed agent who recently hung up her retail hat of 10 years to join the world of insurance with the 1st Rate Insurance Team.

Sarah can be found spending her free time exploring Washington, hanging out with family and friends, enjoying a good glass of red wine and baking up a storm.
Ashley Srsen was born and raised in Olympia, WA. She enjoys spending time with family and friends. She has a niece and nephew that she adores and loves spending time with them, they steal her heart. Ashley has been working in insurance since 2008 and really enjoys working as a broker and having a variety of companies for her customers.

She loves traveling, the outdoors and boating or anything water related. Ashley is one of our outside agents who works in the Olympia/Port Orchard area.
Best Wishes to Lynne Bromley

We said, “good-bye” to Lynne Bromley who has been with us for almost 12 years the end of September.  She and her husband moved out of the area and the commute was just too much for her to continue working here.  We are all going to truly miss her and all her hard work through the years. We wish her the best of luck in her new adventure.

We appreciate all of your referrals! To show our appreciation, we gift $25.00 to our monthly referral winner and we donate $25.00 to the charity of the winner's choice.

8 Scenarios That Would Warrant an Umbrella Insurance Policy

There are many scenarios that would warrant the need for an umbrella insurance policy. We outline a few of them here.

Example #1: Your teenage daughter is babysitting the neighbor kids and leaves the house for a moment to run to the store. When she returns, one of the children is badly injured and requires surgery. The child’s medical bills exceed $300,000. The parents of the children sue you to cover the medical bills.
