Dear Truro Family,
Two quick things about this coming Sunday:
First: This weekend, we join the worldwide Church in celebrating Christ the King Sunday. This is more than just the end of the Church Year (before Advent begins the following Sunday), but this is the culmination of the Church Year! It’s all been building up to this. Every hymn, every prayer, and every liturgical season has been telling the story of Jesus, and leading us to exalt and glorify him together. We’ll also be looking at Paul’s letter to the Philippians one last time (before our intermission in the sermon series), where he points us to our King Jesus, who has been given “the name that is above every name”! (Phil. 2:9)
Second: If you’ve been with us over the last three weeks, you will have heard me mention that this Sunday we will take time in our services to fill out our 2023 Pledge Cards, as an evidence of the gospel taking root in our lives, and as a fruit of the Spirit’s work in our hearts. I invite us all to seriously and prayerfully consider what the Lord is leading us to give over the next year, in support of the mission and vision of this church. Let’s come to church this Sunday ready to participate in this act of worship as a church family.
Thankful for you all,
P.S. Bishop Martyn Minns will be visiting with us and preaching next Sunday, November 27. I’m looking forward to welcoming the Minns family back to Truro, and to introducing many of you to them for the first time!
Please take time this weekend to prayerfully consider how the Lord is leading you to fill out a 2023 Pledge Card in our services on Sunday. On the left, we ask you to let us know how God has led you to give financially. In the center, you’re invited to give your own time and/or gifts to serving the church in some way. And on the right, you’ll find a receipt for your own records, as a reminder of your commitment to give generously to the Lord. If you would like to fill out your Pledge Card online, you can do so HERE.
Men's Ministry Breakfast
Join Truro Men’s Ministry tomorrow, Saturday, November 19 from 9-11 AM in the Undercroft. We'll enjoy breakfast, fellowship, and two speakers who will teach and encourage us in our walk. Chip Webb from Truro will share his faith journey through the many health challenges he has faced and continues to face in his life. Larry Gordon will tell us about The Car Ministry where he currently serves as President. Please register HERE so we can plan food. If you have questions, feel free to contact Tony Zipfel or Will Rowe.
Putt Putt with Paul!
Join Kids' Ministry for a Family Event after the 10 AM service! We’ll finish "All Paul Fall" and usher in advent with “Putt Putt With Paul” all over the church! Kids and parents can play through all 9 holes of Paul’s journeys and at the end pick up advent candles and a daily family devotion and some other fun things to help us “get ready to get ready” for Jesus’ birth (advent begins November 27)! Start in the Gunnell House Parlor!
Connection Center is Moving!
The Connection Center moves inside this Sunday. Follow the steps down to the Undercroft after the 10 AM service for coffee, tea, and snacks as we connect with one another. Be sure to put on a name tag to help us learn each other’s names!
Last Chance for Directory Photos
Sunday is your last chance to have your photo taken for the church directory in the Undercroft. Look for the Tall Pink Flamingo and her Directory Photo sign. Want to submit your own photo? Click HERE to send photos and directory info.
Free Books and Other Fun Things
Find us this Sunday in the Undercroft side rooms for our last Sunday giving away books for all ages! Maybe you will find a few special books to give to a friend! Take as many as you can load into your vehicles!
Greening of the Church
Join us Saturday, December 3, starting at 9 AM for the Greening of the Church. We will have teams making Williamsburg-style wreaths to hang throughout the campus. We will need helpers who aren’t afraid of climbing up tall ladders to hang garland in the church. We also need helpers to hang lighted wreaths in the church windows and to place hurricane candles in the windows of the chapel. Kids are welcome, and we will even be making the backdrop for the live nativity with them. Click HERE to sign up for the available slots. We’ll meet for some breakfast snacks and directions before heading into our workspaces.

Kids Ministry Volunteer Spotlight: Brad Brewster
Brad Brewster has been volunteering in Kids Ministry for more than five years and for many more years in other churches before that because as he says, he is convinced that the “return on investment” in working with children is significant! “You’re planting seeds, building memories, and making an impact that will yield dividends for perhaps 80 or 90 years!”
The kids love his creativity, his all-in attitude, his amazing interpretations of the kids' crafts, his cool hobbies, and his love for Jesus, the Bible, and sharing the good news! He is also the reigning King of dad jokes and always has one at the ready! Just try him!
What made you decide to volunteer in Kids Ministry?
Brad: Jesus calls us to share and "preach the gospel to all creation" (Mark 16:15). That can sound like an overwhelming task. But the easiest place to get started and try it out is with kids, and our own kids right here at Truro! Sharing the Good News with children is much easier than preparing a sermon, leading a bible study, or evangelizing at the supermarket, so this is a great place to start out and get involved.
Second, I find that when I share and teach something, I learn it so much better myself. So, Kids Ministry has been a big help to my own discipleship and growth in Christ.
Third, I think that the "return on investment" in working with children is significant. You're planting seeds, building memories, and making an impact that will yield dividends for perhaps 80 or 90 years.
What’s your favorite thing about volunteering in Kids Ministry?
Brad: A great benefit of volunteering in Kids Ministry is the opportunity to relive your 2nd or 3rd childhood! We do crafts, coloring, songs, skits, and games! It's fun!!
Another great blessing of Kids Ministry is that it's an instant way to meet people, make friends, and build a fun community - with kids, families, and volunteers! It's a special opportunity to see how God is alive and at work in the hearts of our kids every week, week by week, year by year. I am blessed by seeing their prayers, insights, acts of kindness, and their faith. And by their friendship when they share back, sometimes years later, a fun memory, joke, or bible story.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Year to date (YTD) through the end of October 2022, we are just slightly behind in our overall revenue against budget; we have a small shortfall of about $23,000. However, we are doing much better than the first half of the year where our revenue shortfall was significant. Due to your faithful giving, we have almost closed the gap on the revenue side.
Our expenses YTD through the end of October are significantly below budget, primarily due to staff vacancies. It is anticipated that some of these positions will be filled in the upcoming months.
On a different note, we have good news on a recently completed audit of Truro's financial statements! We received an Independent Auditor's Report from Thompson Greenspon (Truro's CPA firm) and they gave us a clean audit opinion from their recently completed, full audit. Their report indicated that the 2021 Truro financial statements represented fairly the financial position of our church as of 12/31/2021! Truro's financial statements also incorporate the financial transactions and assets from Truro Preschool (TPK). Thanks to Truro's Operations and Accounting staff as well as TPK's accounting staff for a job well done!
Don Foy, Truro Treasurer
Below is a YTD summary of Truro's revenue and expenses against budget (planned) as of 10/31/2022:
Revenue (Restricted and Unrestricted Giving)
Received $1,939,073 Planned $1,961,774 Difference ($22,701)
Expenses as of 10/31/2022
Actual $2,018,623 Planned $2,088,719 Difference ($70,096)
