Moms Connection Group: Are you a mom and would you like to connect with other moms - maybe for a play date, a meeting in the park, a simple bible study, or just coffee and conversation? Click HERE to add your name and contact info to share with other mothers and let's build some new connections through Truro. We are asking for your home address so that we can build connections in our neighborhoods and create opportunities to invite other moms outside of Truro to join you too. Once we have a few names gathered, we will send a group email to everyone, and you can begin to set up times and places to meet.

Seniors Ministry: We will not have Seniors Lunch the rest of August. We are looking forward to our weekly gatherings again in September. Please stay tuned.

Baptism Sunday for both adults and children will be on September 4. Register HERE for Children and HERE for Adults. Questions? Email Molly Andreson.

Thursday Morning Women’s Bible Study begins September 22 at 9:30 in Common Grounds. Contact Georgene Assur for more information.

TIPS ESOL classes kick off in September and registration is now open! If you know of any internationals interested in learning English and more about our culture, please share this information with them. They can register HERE

TIPS is Truro’s ministry to internationals, and we have ways for everyone to be involved!  Do you speak English? Are you friendly? Then you are qualified to be an assistant in our ESOL classes – no prep necessary! You could also serve as a Greeter, help with special events, or provide lunch for one or more classes. Do you have professional skills that you could share (legal, job search, etc)? Would you be willing to donate to our scholarship fund? Or are you a prayer warrior who could join our prayer team? Whatever your gifts, we have a place for you!  Sign up HERE or contact Myra Hinote for more info.

Thank you, Truro, for blessing our students so tremendously with your prayers and support for our Youth Mission Trip! You all gave more than $5,700 to support our students, making the trip more affordable for students and allowing for several scholarships. Our team this year was fifteen students (ages 12 - 18) and four adults. We stayed at a historic campus where we slept, ate meals, and participated in evening “Club” services with worship and Bible teaching. During the day, our group was split into two teams. One team participated in the “Mercy Ministries” track - preparing lunches and delivering them to people experiencing homelessness; packing food boxes at a non-profit food distribution center; doing external maintenance at a local church, etc. Our other team participated in children's ministry at a local church the Philly Project supports. Overall, it was a challenging but impactful week for our students! They worked hard and persevered through difficult circumstances, and we had a lot of fun, too! Memorable “off-duty” moments include our GPSs taking us through New Jersey to get to the Philadelphia River area, trips to Wawa, and playing games in the front lawn area.

Here is what one student said about the Philadelphia Project trip:

“I had a lot of fun with Truro friends serving the community and growing closer to the Lord together. My favorite part was packing boxes on an assembly line at a food bank. Thank you to everyone who donated to help make our mission trip possible!”

The Lamb Center will celebrate its 30th Anniversary this October! The Lamb Center came into being because of the vision of then Truro Rector Martyn Minns to share Christ's love through word and deed to those experiencing homelessness. From humble beginnings over a pawn shop, to its own building now, the Lamb Center has ministered to hundreds, if not thousands, during its existence.

On Thursday, October 6 The Lamb Center will celebrate with a banquet at the Falls Church Marriott Fairview Park. Bishop Minns will be our featured speaker. We would love to see many of our congregation attend so mark your calendars and look for registration information soon.

Volunteering in Family Ministry

Last Sunday a group of parents, volunteers, and prospective volunteers met on the lawn to talk about their best memories as a kid or teen attending Sunday school and youth group. We asked their thoughts about what is most important for your children and their suggestions for how we can frame the coming year to help all our kids (birth to graduation) grow in their relationship with the Lord, and with adults here at Truro. Here are some of the comments:

Create a legacy of discipleship

  • Memory verses for school-age kids
  • Invite teens to help with younger kids
  • Circles not Rows

Plan retreats where kids can connect

Make Church fun – a place they want to be and to bring friends and family

  • Create a strong spiritual foundation
  • Create a safe and comforting environment
  • Think creatively and capture kids' imaginations as they interact with the Bible.

Build a community for them “we belong to something important”

  • Build lifelong relationships
  • Support families and their faith values

Be an adult role model to our kids and teens

  • Every child's name is known by a church member outside their family unit

Help kids transition in school and teens to transition to college

Be a constant in their lives

Did we mention have fun while doing this!!!

Are these things that are important to you? Can you see yourself helping in these areas? Family Ministry has lots of opportunities for you to share your gifts with our children, to develop lasting relationships, and to be a part of something really important. Contact us to find out how you can support our children on a schedule that works for you. The new year starts September 11th. Now is the time to reach out. Just click HERE to indicate your interest.
