Over the next few weeks, you’re going to hear us talk a lot about Tuesday night dinners…
First, this Tuesday, February 21 we’ll have our annual pancake dinner. Come anytime between 5–7 PM for all-you-can-eat pancakes, and all-you-can-handle “dad jokes.” Enjoy a relaxed time of food and fellowship, and the long-awaited pancake eating contest!
Second, starting the following week on February 28 (and lasting all throughout the season of Lent), Tuesday nights will be “Community Nights” here at Truro. Every Tuesday we’ll have a different theme for dinner (the first week will be a staff-vs-vestry chili cook-off!), and everyone will be welcome to come, enjoy a meal, and stay for as long or as briefly as they’d like. We’ll nudge the timing of these dinners a little later than Shrove Tuesday, to make it easier for folks to make it after work. Stay tuned.
Why all this talk about dinners? Especially in Lent? The goal is simple: that as we share meals together as a church, we’ll get to know one another better. We’ll grow closer in community. From our children to our seniors, newcomers to old-timers, and everyone in-between.
I’m praying that God will use these next seven Tuesdays to strengthen the pillar of community here. And give you one less meal to have to cook!
See you this Sunday (and next Tuesday!)
Your brother in Christ,
Jamie
P.S. The season of Lent begins this coming week, on Ash Wednesday, February 22. Our services will be held at:

7 PM – Evening service with the imposition of ashes and communion (sanctuary and online)
Bishop's Consecration
We are excited for the consecration of our new bishop, Rev. Chris Warner on Saturday, February 18, at 10 AM at The Falls Church Anglican. If you are still interested in attending, please RSVP below.
For the last ten months, Sharon Cartwright has served as our Director of Prayer Ministry. Now that she has handed those responsibilities over to Rev. Abigail Whitehouse, we celebrate the many ways that God used Sharon in ministry! Both at Truro (prayer after the service or during the week, spiritual direction, and more) and in the broader church (leading training retreats for new Anglican churches in Charlottesville and Richmond), Sharon has been instrumental in helping our prayer ministry grow and thrive. We’re grateful to God for leading Sharon to step into leadership during an interim period and are grateful that she will now continue to serve within the ministry in the future. Thank you, Sharon!

Here at Truro, Confirmation (or Reception/Reaffirmation for those who have already made adult professions of faith) is the final step of the membership process. It is a public profession of faith, marked by the laying on of hands by the Bishop. He will pray that each new member will be empowered by the Holy Spirit to do the work that God has given them to do as they participate in the life, mission, and ministry of the local expression of the larger church body (that is, Truro).
What is the difference between confirmation, reception, and reaffirmation? If you have never made a public, adult profession of faith before, then you usually ought to be confirmed. If you’ve previously made an adult profession of faith, then you’ll likely be received. If you’ve made an adult profession of faith before, but you’re coming back to following Jesus after some time away, then reaffirmation is probably the right step. Either way, the service looks the same, and the bishop will lay hands on you and pray for you to be empowered for ministry in the church – the only difference is the prayer the bishop prays.
If you have already been through Foundations (or previously through a Truro “New Members Class”), then we encourage you to take this final step into the life at Truro. If you have any questions, we encourage you to reach out to Rev. Mike Seawright.
Join our Seniors for a catered lunch, fellowship, fun, and spiritual growth. All are welcome, regardless of age. $5/person
