Clergy Note

Dear Truro family,

This coming Sunday, November 13, Catherine and I would love to invite any newcomers who have started coming to Truro in the last year or so to a lunch after the 10 AM service. Kids are welcome too! We look forward to getting to know you, sharing some of what we love about this church, letting you ask us questions, and then we’ll have some questions for you too. You can RSVP HERE, so we can have enough food. If you can’t make it this month, we’ll be having another one on Sunday, December 11.

Speaking of December 11, we’re excited to be bringing back a happy Truro tradition that evening at 5 PM, which is “Carols by Glowstick.” We’ll be keeping very simple this year and will holding this event outside on our front lawn. This event is totally and completely designed to be an easy invitation for our un-churched friends and neighbors. The premise is pretty simple: we sing a whole bunch of carols (even “Jingle Bells”!), we have a whole bunch of glowsticks, and then we eat a whole bunch of cookies. Plan on bringing a friend (and a chair… and some cookies!)

These dates and more can also be found in the “Welcome Guide" in your pews, now updated with November and December events. When I consider all of these exciting signs of life in our church, the first verse of Psalm 122 comes to mind: “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’”

Your brother,

Worshipping God in Our Giving
The last chapter of the book of 1 Chronicles paints a picture of the people of God moved to give of their wealth and treasures as an act of worship. As they gave “freewill offerings,” we’re told that “...the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord.” (1 Chronicles 29:9)
This heart posture is further reflected in the words of David, who prays in verse 11:
"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all."
Next Sunday, November 20, we will be invited as a congregation to fill out a stewardship card, and put it in the offering plate, as an act of worship and in support of the mission and vision of this church. And when we do this, we’ll be agreeing with this Biblical truth, as we pray to God: “…All things come from you, and of your own have we given you.” (1 Chronicles 29:14)

Coming Up

TPK Turkey Trot

TPK will host their annual Turkey Trot TOMORROW at 9 AM! We will meet at Truro Church and run/walk a mile down Main Street and return to the campus where we will celebrate, distribute medals, and enjoy music, a raffle, food, moon bounces, games, and face painting. You don't need to run to attend...this will be a wonderful time of fellowship and fun!

Are you new to Truro?

We want to meet you! Please join Jamie & Catherine Brown this Sunday, November 13 for lunch and fellowship after the 10 AM service in Common Grounds. Please register HERE so we can plan for food.

Get Involved in the Marriage Ministry!

As we pray for and recalibrate our marriage ministry, we would like you to participate in this journey with us. Steven and Michelle Shalita will be available this Sunday after the 10 AM service, outside on the brick patio, to register your interest in four areas:

  1. Intercessors for the marriage ministry
  2. Serving on the marriage course crew (setting up, cooking, serving, welcoming, clearing up etc.)
  3. Serve as marriage mentors for other couples
  4. Providing administration and logistical support (keeping register, making calls, managing rosters, ordering materials etc.)

You may also simply send an email to Steven to register your interest for any of the service areas above or any other way that you may want to participate in the marriage ministry. We are tentatively planning to start the pre-marriage and marriage courses in February 2023.

Men's Ministry Breakfast

The next Truro Men’s Ministry breakfast will be Saturday, November 19 from 9-11 AM in the Undercroft. Come enjoy breakfast, fellowship, and two speakers who will teach and encourage us in our walk. Chip Webb from Truro will share his faith journey through the many health challenges he has faced and continues to face in his life. Larry Gordon will tell us about The Car Ministry where he currently serves as President. Please register HERE so we can plan food. If you have questions, feel free to contact Tony Zipfel or Will Rowe.

Melissa Messner offers flowers this Sunday in remembrance of her father, Lt. Col. US Army Ret. Raymond Mayer, a Green Beret in Vietnam, whose ashes, with her mom Cheryl's, were laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery October 24.

We welcome donations of flowers in memory or in honor of loved ones. Please click HERE if you would like to order flowers for a Sunday Service. We will take a break from flower donations during Advent. Look for an opportunity to donate to the fund for floral arrangements on Christmas in the coming weeks.
