CLERGY NOTE
Dear Truro Family,

Ever since and Mike and Jenny Seawright moved to Northern Virginia (over 8 years ago!), they have felt a call from God to plant a church in Burke. They love Burke. They live there, run the trails there, their boys go to school there, and God has continued to plant their roots deeper in that community.

And yet they have also felt a strong call from God to stay here at Truro during many tumultuous years and have poured themselves into ministry and community here in so many ways. But the call to plant a church has only gotten stronger as time has passed.

Brothers and sisters of Truro:  your vestry, staff, clergy, and I believe that God has indeed called the Seawrights to plant a church in Burke, and that the time is coming soon to send them off (and some of you too!) on mission. For the first time in over 20 years, it’s time for Truro to plant a church!

Mike and Jenny have been discerning this call, along with the leadership of this church and our diocese, for years now. Over the last four months, we have begun to pray about the prospect of taking this next step of faith in 2023.

So, with a heart full of excitement and faith (and, along with the Seawrights a good mixture of “are we really doing this?!"), on behalf of the leadership of this church, I invite you all to join us in praying about this. Pray for God’s clear guidance as we discern his leading about a lot of things. When? How? Who? Really?!?!

Please join us this Lent as we prepare to take the initial steps towards planting a church. You’ll begin to hear and read more updates on all of this soon. But for now, pray! And if you’d like to save the date, there will be an initial prayer gathering on March 12 at 12 PM in Common Grounds. Feel free to reach out to Mike and/or me anytime with your questions.

The best is yet to come!

Jamie

This past Saturday was the consecration of our new Bishop Chris Warner. Clergy and guests gathered at The Falls Church Anglican to celebrate this happy occasion. Enjoy the link below to see pictures of the ceremony.

LENT

Lenten Prayer Room
Sunday Mornings @ 9 AM | Reception Office

There’s a song we sing at Truro that says, “There's joy in the house of the Lord!” And it's true: in God’s presence there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). But often our awareness of God’s joy in us dims. The daily challenges and anxieties we face make it difficult to experience this joy. In times like these, we need our joy to be renewed and our spirits refreshed!  This Lent, the prayer team will be offering a place to lay down one’s burdens and be refreshed by God’s presence. Beginning this Sunday, February 26, we'll be hosting a prayer room in the office reception area from 9:00 - 9:50 A.M. each Sunday. Come for any length of time to simply soak in God's presence or receive prayer from trained prayer ministers. There will be a wall of post-in notes with words of encouragement and scripture that you may take with you, should a certain word, phrase or scripture speak to your spirit. Come to the prayer room and be renewed! The Nest will be open for children 3 months to five-years old beginning at 8:45 am so you can take part in this special time.

Community Nights in Lent Tuesdays @ 6-7:30 PM | Undercroft

Starting this coming Tuesday, and lasting all throughout the season of Lent, Tuesday nights will be “Community Nights” here at Truro. Every week we’ll have a different theme for dinner. February 28 will be a staff-vs-vestry chili cook-off, and everyone is invited to come, enjoy a meal, and vote for your favorite chili! Dinner will be served anytime between 6-7:30 PM. And you’re welcome to come earlier and/or stay later to enjoy more time for fellowship—doors will be open from 5:30-8 PM. We’ve got your dinner covered for the next six Tuesdays...and you won’t need to do any dishes!

Confirmation Sunday
March 12 @ 10 AM

Here at Truro, Confirmation (or Reception/Reaffirmation) is the final step of the membership process. It is a public profession of faith, marked by the laying on of hands by the Bishop. If you have never made a public, adult profession of faith before, then you ought to be confirmed. If you’ve previously made an adult profession of faith, but were a part of a different church or denomination, then you may be received. If you’ve made an adult profession of faith before, but you’re coming back to following Jesus after some time away, then reaffirmation is the right step. If you have already been through Foundations (or previously through a Truro “New Members Class”), then we encourage you to take this final step into the life at Truro. Questions? Reach out to Rev. Mike Seawright

VOLUNTEER
We Need Help!

Attendance at the 10 AM service has gradually increased over the last year. This is wonderful news! Our ushers have been able to maintain smooth operations concerning greeting, offering, and communion. However, with the increase in attendance of the congregation, and the upcoming Easter season, we will need to expand our usher team.  If you are interested in helping, even if it is for a short time or once a month, please contact us at worship@truroanglican.com.
MISSIONS

A Missions Gathering with Love for the Least
March 2 @ 6 PM | Undercroft

Please join us for dinner with Truro Mission Partners Jerry & Stacy of Love for the Least. They will be visiting and presenting their latest activities in East Africa and the Middle East in bringing aid and compassion to victims of poverty, persecution, and displacement, including on-the-ground aid for those suffering due to the recent earthquake. News of the bountiful harvest of new believers among unreached peoples also will be presented.
