A few mornings ago, we were all greeted by a surprising sight: snow! While we slept, a whopping .4 inches fell. The Washington Post jokingly referred to it as “Dustzilla 2023.” Just enough to make it look like winter, barely enough to register on the scale, and not enough to last through the day. The snow that greeted us when we woke up was gone by the time we ate lunch.
There’s something else that greets us all every morning: God’s love and mercy. But unlike the pitiful amount of a dusting of snow that we received on Wednesday, God showers his goodness upon us like a never-ending blizzard that covers all the bushes, overwhelms our little shovels, and shatters all of the records. The writer of Lamentations says it this way: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lam. 3:22-23)
Be reminded, my brothers and sisters, of this wonderful truth: God is greeting you today, and every day, with his unceasing love and mercies. This is no little dusting. This is amazing grace!
See you this Sunday!
Your brother in Christ,
PS: Catherine and I would love to see you next Sunday, February 12 at our Newcomer’s Lunch, right after the 10 AM service. This is for anyone who’s still getting connected into the life of our church, or who wants to explore more about Truro. Please RSVP below so we can plan accordingly. Children are welcome!
Saturday, February 18 @ 10 AM | The Falls Church Anglican
We are excited for the consecration of our new bishop, Rev. Chris Warner on Saturday, February 18, 10 AM, at The Falls Church Anglican. We estimate around 800 guests will attend the service and lunch. The Consecration Planning team is asking all the DOMA churches to help prepare and contribute food for the reception. Reverend Warner would like finger sandwiches, fruit skewers and chocolate chip cookies and Bishop John has requested that all the food be “homemade” rather than catered.
Truro has committed to at least five dozen, each, of ham biscuits, turkey sandwiches, and chocolate chip cookies. Specific instructions for food preparation are included in the link below. Food items must be delivered to Truro on February 16 between 10 AM and 2 PM in the Parish Office. Contact Maggie Marcum if you have additional questions.
We’re delighted to share the exciting news that the Rev. Abigail Whitehouse has joined our clergy team here at Truro beginning February 1. Many of you have already had the opportunity to meet Abigail, as she and her family have been joining us for worship over the last several months. I’m excited for the whole congregation to get to know the Whitehouse family in the months and years to come.
Abigail will be a member of the clergy team and the leadership team of the church, and she’ll be assisting with pastoral care, helping lead our services on Sunday, and overseeing our prayer ministry and community groups. This is a part-time role, so the whole congregation will be her “assistants!” I know that she’ll be grateful for your prayers, encouragement, and support as she begins her ministry here.
Welcome, Whitehouse family!

Youth Group Game Night
Sunday, February 5 @ 4:00 PM | Undercroft
Save the date! Our annual Pancake Dinner returns on Tuesday, February 21 from 5-7 PM in the Undercroft. This is an old tradition here at Truro, and all around the world, on what is called “Shrove Tuesday” (i.e. the day before the season Lent begins). It even used to be a half-day holiday in Britain, complete with the ringing of church bells, and pancake races!
Come hungry on Shrove Tuesday, with all-you-can-eat pancakes and toppings/sides and enjoy some time together as a church family. Everyone is invited! Every twenty minutes, Mike and Jamie will share their all-time favorite “dad jokes.” And there may even be a pancake-eating contest or two!
Join our Seniors for a catered lunch, fellowship, fun, and spiritual growth. All are welcome, regardless of age. $5/person

Coming Soon: The Marriage Course
We are committed to relaunching our marriage ministry with both the Premarital and Marriage Courses. You can find out more about the Marriage Course HERE. For this to happen we need two things:
1) Please let us know if you or someone you know is interested in taking any of the two courses by emailing Jason Lalone.
Many thanks to all those that have already signed up as volunteers. Thank you for supporting strong marriages at Truro. We are excited about what the Lord is doing and is yet to do.
More Students = More Volunteers Needed
Recently, one of our volunteers told us, “I went to bed after assisting in my first class this semester so full of joy! Even after spending a day in Zoom meetings, I am happy to come to class because I know that it will recharge me. I love doing TIPS!”
The students keep pouring in, and we could really use help in 3 main areas:
Sign up to be a class assistant one day a week – no experience or preparation necessary!
Bring (or order) lunch on a Tuesday or Thursday – this is the most important time for connection and relationship-building, and we would love some help feeding the 60 people who regularly stay for lunch!
Many of our students are looking for jobs – everything from menial jobs to retail to diplomats to surgeons! If you can assist in any way, please let us know.
Truro Preschool and Kindergarten offers a rich preschool and kindergarten experience for children aged 2.5 through kindergarten. Over 100 registrations have been received for the 150 openings available. If you are considering TPK for your child, register soon! For more information go to our websiteand schedule an in-person tour.
Contribution statements for 2022 were mailed earlier this week. Thank you for your generous giving! Please contact Marsha Foos with any questions.
