The entire Truro family is invited to attend the Institution Service for Rev. Jamie Brown on Sunday, October 23 during the 10 AM Service. Afterwards, we will celebrate with a Parish Picnic on the front lawn. We have loads of fun stuff planned such as:

  • Moon Bounce and Obstacles Course
  • Bean bag toss
  • Puzzles
  • Take your photo for the directory
  • Hot dogs and Burgers on the grill

WE STILL NEED SOME HELPING HANDS to cook at 9 AM and to help with setting up. Please sign up HERE if you can help. Don’t forget to bring a blanket for the grass, or a fold-up chair. And invite a friend or neighbor to get to know us!!

Can you give 15 minutes to help monitor the Moon Bounce or Inflatable Obstacle Course with our kids during the picnic? Sign up HERE to help keep our kids safe as they enjoy these fun activities.

Truro Cares

Help us bless the guests of The Lamb Center this Sunday by bringing the following items to fill their shelves with:

  • Dinner-sized paper plates
  • 8 oz. coffee cups
  • Creamer
  • Sugar packets
  • Bottles of water

Free Books!

This Sunday we will put out books that Truro has gathered over the years but unfortunately, due to changing times, are seldom used. We would like to offer them to you before we donate to other places that might enjoy having them. We have books for kids and adults. They will be outside the Parish Office - take as many as you can load into your vehicles!

Clergy Note

Are you new to Truro?

We want to meet you! Please join Jamie & Catherine Brown on November 13 for lunch and fellowship after the 10 AM service. Please register HERE.

Dear Truro Family,

A little over 22 years ago, I came to Truro Anglican Church as a junior in high school. I walked into the 11:15 AM service, my first Sunday here, completely disoriented, considerably depressed, and quite unsure of why God had called my family here. It didn’t take long for me to begin to love this place. And by the end of the first song, whether or not I realized it, I was hooked.

A lot has happened since then. And that’s the understatement of the year. But through it all, God has continued to give my family and me a profound love for this wonderful church, and a deep sense of calling here. Words can’t begin to say what a privilege it is to be called to serve as your new rector.

This coming weekend is a celebration. But to be clear: it is not a celebration of me. We gather this Sunday to celebrate a faithful God who loves his church more than any of us could ever imagine. And he loves Truro Anglican Church. He loved Truro enough to send Jesus to die for it. And he has loved Truro enough to sustain it through many different seasons and storms. This Sunday we celebrate that we – His Church - are alive in Christ. And he is leading us forward.

I love you, Truro. But God loves you infinitely more. Let’s gather this Sunday to give him thanks for that.

Looking to Jesus,

Jamie

Coming Up

Youth Fall Retreat

Join the Truro Youth Ministry for a weekend retreat! We'll gather at the church Friday, October 28, in the evening to carpool to the West River Retreat Center in West River, MD (approx. 1 hour and 15 min. away). We will leave on Sunday, October 30, in the afternoon to arrive back in Fairfax.

We do not want the cost to be prohibitive! If you need a scholarship, please contact Summer Farinas ASAP before filling out this registration form.

TPK Turkey Trot

TPK will host the Turkey Trot on November 12 at 9:00 AM. We will meet at Truro Church and run/walk a mile down Main Street and return to the campus where we will celebrate, distribute medals, and enjoy music, a raffle, food, moon bounces, games, and face painting. This will be a wonderful time of fellowship and fun! Sign up HERE by October 23 to guarantee receipt of a T-shirt!

Sponsorships

The TPK Fun Run supports our operating budget, which includes our scholarship fund. These funds help us to provide a quality Christ-centered education for preschoolers and kindergarteners in our community. If you are interested in being a TPK Fun Run sponsor, click HERE.

Speak English? Friendly? We need YOU!

God is working in amazing ways in our International Ministry (TIPS) this year. We already have 175 students registered for our English classes, with more coming in every week!

Our mission statement is, "TIPS serves the international community by offering hospitality through relevant services with excellence so the stranger can experience the love of God in tangible ways and move towards believing in God.”

In order to continue providing English classes with excellence, we need more volunteer assistants! If you can volunteer for 2 hours once a week (either morning or evening), we would love your help!

No experience needed—if you speak English and are relatively friendly, we can use you! Please contact Myra Hinote for more information or sign-up HERE

King Jesus and His Unlikely Kingdom

Rev. Mike Seawright continues his mid-week Bible study Wednesday evenings on Zoom from 7:30-8:45 PM. Over the course of six weeks, we’ll explore selected readings from the Gospels, taking a look at the ways Jesus saw (and sees) the world differently than we do in His unlikely kingdom. Register HERE

Anglican Essentials: Going Deeper

Dr. Paul Julienne continues a deep dive into Anglicanism on Tuesday evenings @ 7:30 PM on Zoom. The goal of this series of classes is to enable participants to become more passionate followers of Jesus today. We will look at (1) the roots of Anglican practice and doctrine in Christian life from the centuries following Jesus, (2) the classic doctrine of creation “from nothing” that lets us make sense of the world, and (3) hear from some contemporary Anglican voices to help us see how all things hold together in Christ. Register HERE for the course. Click HERE for additional course information.

Building Update
Our facilities are suffering from quite a bit of deferred maintenance and we are trying to be good stewards of the facility and of our limited budget. To that end, the repairs have begun in our boiler room.  This is a long overdue project and we thought you might like to have a first-hand visual of how badly this was needed.  As the staff and Building and Grounds committee make priority lists of which projects can no longer be put on the back burner, we promise to keep you updated with progress.

Before
Flowers

Flowers this Sunday are donated in celebration of the institution of Jamie Brown as Truro’s new rector by Patti Royall and Maggie Marcum.

We welcome donations of flowers in memory or in honor of loved ones. We will take a break from flower donations during Advent. Please click HERE if you would like to order flowers for a Sunday Service.
