Updated Coronavirus Guidance

Dear volunteer coordinator:

Further to our previous communications concerning the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Glass Door continues to carefully monitor the latest advice and information provided by Public Health England (PHE) (see here) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) (see here). Our priority, as always, is the welfare of guests, volunteers and staff.

PHE have raised the risk level of an outbreak in the UK from low to moderate, but the risk to individuals in the UK remains low. Good charity governance requires we plan for all eventualities.

In light of the coronavirus spreading outside of China, PHE has also updated their guidance on ‘other specified countries’ in the region. Thus, we have updated our own guidance.

We requested last week that you ask a list of questions to volunteers and visitors during every volunteer briefing and that you ask a list of questions to volunteers and visitors ahead of their shifts

With immediate effect, please replace the questions with the new list below.

Key questions to identify risks requiring action:

  1. In the last 14 days, have you returned from Hubei province in China (including Wuhan)?
  2. Since 19th February, have you returned from Iran, specific lockdown areas in Northern Italy or special care zones in South Korea
  3. Do you have mild symptoms (of cough, fever or shortness of breath) and you have recently returned from mainland China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, or Japan in the past 14 days?
  4. Do you have mild symptoms (of cough, fever or shortness of breath) and you have recently returned from Northern Italy, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar since 19th February?
  5. Have you lived with or had close contact (within 2 metres for 15 minutes or more) with someone who has a confirmed case of coronavirus?

Any volunteer who answers yes to any of the above questions must not attend our services and should consult the government website for further instructions, including whether a call to NHS 111 is needed.

An updated version of our full guidance is also attached for your reference. The only change to this document is to the questions included in this email.

Please know we will also be sending a version of this email directly to volunteers for whom we have a valid email. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks as always for your help in keeping our services safe,

Megan
