Programming the Mind for an Amazing 2015

Let’s make 2015 a ‘Wow Project’! In fact lets make it the best project of our life so far.

We prepare our mind for success and failure based on how we programme, condition and prepare it. A positive mind will activate the ‘Reticular Activating System’ [RAS] to experience (see, hear, feel, smell, taste) positive situations if we are looking for it and open to it. Therefore if you are looking for the ideal ‘Masters Degree’ to pursue in 2015, once you see, hear and feel yourself enjoying pursuing the masters degree successfully in your mind, your brain will filter and pick up ides for the ‘Masters Degree’ from the millions of stimuli bombarding us every second of our life.

Therefore let me share with you a process that has helped me, to help you make 2015 the best ‘Wow Project’ of your life.

I hope you have followed the guidelines given in my previous blog to take the resources from 2014 to energize 2015. Click here if you need to access it. Review your success inventory 2014 and failure inventory 2014 from the earlier blog referred to above, when doing the following exercise.

Planning ‘Wow Project 2015’

The first step is to come up with an inspirational plan. This can be done individually, with your family (Family Wow Project 2015) or with your team (Team Wow Project 2015).

Step 1: List down three big goals you (or your family or your team) would like to achieve in 2015.

Step 2: List the attitude changes you need in each of the following areas: physical wellbeing, knowledge & skills, values that create a positive spirit, relationships, management of time, allocation of resources (funds, talent & physical resources) in order to achieve the three big gaols. E.g. new knowledge is important for me to do new things to achieve my goals for 2015.

Step 3: List the belief change you need in each of the following areas: physical wellbeing, knowledge & skills, values that creates a positive spirit, relationships, management of time, allocation of resources (funds, talent & physical resources) in order to achieve the three big gaols. E.g. I believe I have the intellectual capacity to enhance my knowledge.

Step 4: List behaviour changes you need in each of the following areas: physical wellbeing, knowledge & skills, values that create a positive spirit, relationships, management of time, allocation of resources (funds, talent & physical resources) in order to achieve the three big gaols. E.g. I start my day thinking of my big goals and doing a mental rehearsal of me achieving my tasks planned for the day.

Executing the ‘Wow Project 2015’

Lets’ make sure that the exercise so far does not end up as a fantasy by taking specific steps to ensure execution.

Step 1: Create Achieving Wow Project 2015 - Do this alone, with your family or with your team, based on the scope of your project that is already planned in the earlier step. Draw a picture, record a speech or make a prototype of you (or your family or team) of achieving those goals. Use any material you like to do it, but the main thing is to make it a fun, exciting and inspiring activity. If you are the visual type, draw it or make a collage, if you are the auditory type, record a speech you here after having achieving it and if you are a kinaesthetic person make a prototype.

Step 2: Display the ‘Wow Project 2015’ (created in step 1). Experience it (see, hear, feel, taste, smell) mentally everyday at least for 21 days. Repetition of any activity for 21 days makes it a habit and success is a habit.

Step 3: Create a plan for each big goal; decide on specific activities, time frames, budgets and responsible persons for each relevant activity.

Using 2014 to energise us for an amazing 2015!

We are not equal to our past; we are the resources we bring forth. Yes, the past is gone; we need to leave it where it belongs. However we need to also take the resources from the past to energise our future.

We all started the past year with fresh hope for our families, our teams and ourselves. We planned to make the New Year the most spectacular year of all. Some of us were able to build on success and continuously improve to achieve and even surpass what we set out to achieve. Some others may have started off with great plans and found it fizzle off really fast.

The best we can do is to derive energy from the last year to gear up for a great 2015. This requires us building on the successes and take learning from areas that could have been better.

Given below is a few simple steps that can help you to gear up for an amazing 2014.

Get together with your immediate team and go through the following process.

Success inventory 2014:
Step 1: List down the 3 biggest successes in 2014
Step 2: Sit in a quiet place and vividly see, hear and feel those successes as in much detail as possible. Re-live it and celebrate it mentally.
Step 3: List down the 3 biggest learning’s from those successes
Step 4: List down the values that lead to those successes
Step 5: List down the beliefs that lead to those successes
Step 6: List down the behaviours that lead to those successes
Step 7: List down the relationships that lead to those successes

This process will help us get energized from the success from the past and make the neurological connections to make the attitudes, beliefs, behaviours and relationships work for us the New Year too.

Failure inventory 2014:
Step 1: List down the 3 biggest failures in 2014
Step 2: Sit in a quiet place and vividly see, hear and feel those failures turning into success by you taking a different course of action as in much detail as possible. Believe it really happened celebrate it mentally.
Step 3: List down the 3 biggest learning’s from those failures.

My Journey in December 2014

  • I started the month in Dhaka conducting sessions for Banglalink to inculcate their behavioural core competencies in their leaders. After 4 days with Banglalink I travelled to Dubai and Doha to conduct the celebrations to mark the conclusion of the 6 month long leadership development process I conducted for 3 teams in these two locations.  It was fulfilling to se the growth and success of the leaders who took part in the process. Then I returned to Dhaka to facilitate another batch for Banglalink, a leadership session for Partex and to conduct the public Mastery of Self [NLP] in Dhaka. Then I travelled home for Christmas. Soon after Christmas I got back to Dhaka to conduct one more batch for Banglalink and another session for the Unifill Group, before returning home for the New Year.
  • It was quite a coincidence that I had travelled to Dhaka exactly 10 years ago on 26th December 2004 and once again almost at the same time to Dhaka on 26th December 2014. I remembered this as the Tsunami stuck Sri Lanka 10 years ago and I heard about it when I landed in Dhaka, 10 years ago.
  • I thank god for giving me the energy to inspire so many souls.

What’s in store for January 2015

  • I start the month in Colombo celebrating and ushering in an Amazing 2015. Thereafter I spend time in Colombo. Dubai and Dhaka on various assignments.
