NEW LATE WORK POLICY EFFECTIVE TODAY
Purple Pup Students and Parents,
I am excited to announce the Lanier Shared Decision Making Committee, composed of teachers, administrators, and parents, unanimously adopted a new late work policy on Friday, January 29, 2021. After reviewing survey results from Lanier teachers and feedback from Lanier students and parents, the SDMC drafted a new policy that provides much more flexibility for students and parents as we remain in the throes of the worst pandemic of our lifetimes. The new policy goes into effect on February 1, 2021, and will remain in effect until such time that all students are in-person students once more. The policy will be reviewed for its effectiveness and impact after the 4th grading cycle.
Click the link below to access the new policy, and be sure to read it carefully, including the scenarios and the fictional story of Zoe and Miguel. These provide concrete examples of how the policy impacts assignments turned in at varying degrees of lateness and the impact of earning a 50 on an assignment instead of a zero. You might be surprised at how much a 50 helps an average when replacing a 0.
I am confident that as you review the new policy, you will find that it is much more flexible and much more forgiving than the policy it replaces. Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback. We listened, and we responded.
