Construction Site Materials Theft

On June 11 at about 1 p.m. two vehicles, including a white “look out” vehicle with paper tags, were parked beside a construction site at Morningside at Maroneal. The contractor arrived just as the thieves were in the process of loading a third pallet of plywood into the other vehicle. When they realized they were being observed, the thieves sped off quickly. We did not have a SEAL officer on duty, but SEAL sent an officer from another area over to meet with the contractor and his two daughters who were witnesses.  The officer spent time with them and wrote up an incident report. They waited for HPD to arrive, and after two and a half hours they gave up and left. The contractor was grateful to have neighbors who tried to help by asking all the people with cameras to see if they spotted anything.  The contractor said it was nice to know that people still cared.

Theft of construction materials is one of the most common crimes in Houston currently due to supply chain issues and the spiraling cost of materials. Those with construction sites are encouraged to keep gates/fences locked and to install their own security cameras. Neighbors should call SEAL at 713-422-2770 if they notice any unusual activity anywhere in the neighborhood.
