Beautification Committee Update

Dear Old Braeswood Residents,

My name is Daniel Parker and I have been serving on the Old Braeswood Ad Hoc Beautification Committee since its inception and am currently the interim chair. Along with Ann Garnett, also on the committee, I look forward to continuing the original principles and mission to work with all of you to make our neighborhood a more beautiful place to live. As a committee of the Old Braeswood Property Owners Association, we strive to coordinate closely with the Old Braeswood Park Corporation, the Tree Committee, the Preservation Committee, and the Garden Club on projects throughout our neighborhood.
A quick update on work completed:
In just the first six months of this year, our community gardener, Jerry Flagg, and his crew have repaired, when necessary, and power washed all the street signs and Old Braeswood brick pillars at the entry points to the neighborhood. In addition, the crew cleaned the curbs, sidewalks, and ramps within ten feet of the corners. We also initiated the pilot esplanade project on Kirby Drive, installing permeable turf on the median between Maroneal and Glen Haven.
What’s ahead for the rest of 2022?
 1.     Community Gardener: The committee would like to secure funding to continue the work of the community gardener and crew through the end of the year. This will include cleaning street signs and stop signs interior to the neighborhood, clearing trash and debris off the esplanades on the boundary streets, and other cleaning and maintenance projects.
2.     Esplanade Pilot Project: Assuming feedback from neighbors and from the city indicates approval for this pilot project, we would like to install permeable turf on a second median on Kirby.
3.     Neighborhood Clean-up Day: When the heat dies down, we’d like to schedule a Saturday morning volunteer street trash cleanup for the entire neighborhood.
4.     Larger Projects: We will continue discussion of larger projects with the other committees and organizations in Old Braeswood.
Our funds are low, and we need your help!  In addition to paying annual dues, supporting SEAL, and if you contribute to other neighborhood projects, we hope you will consider joining us by making a donation through the website below, which is now linked directly to the OBPOA website and under the control of the OBPOA Treasurer and Manager.
Just as importantly, in the coming weeks/months we are looking to add two more members, appoint a chair of the committee, and start planning for 2023!
Thank you for your time,
Daniel Parker, Interim Chair
