'If it's not broke don't fix it' is the philosphy that has been working for The Balvenie distillery for centuries... They still make whisky the way they always have - from growing their own barely, operating one of the last working floor maltings, to employing their own coppersmiths, and having everything overseen by their Malt Master! It is these qualities that make The Balvenie unique.
And you have the opportunity to try some of their delicious drams at this month's Scotch Club. On the tasting menu are -
DoubleWood 12 yo: a single malt which gains its distinctive character from being matured in two wood types. Over the period of maturation it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill European oak sherry cask. Smooth and mellow.
DoubleWood 17 yo: is an elder sibling to DoubleWood 12 yo and shares its honeyed, spicy characteristics, but it is distinctly different, with deeper vanilla notes, hints of green apple, creamy toffee and a striking richness and complexity.
Caribbean Cask 14 yo: has been matured in traditional oak whisky casks for 14 years, and then ‘finished’ in casks that previously held Caribbean rum.
Resulting in an exceptional single malt with the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie, married with notes of toffee and a hint of fruit, with a warm, lingering finish.
Port Wood 21 yo: a marriage of rare Balvenie is transferred to port casks, or pipes where it is sampled regularly by the Malt Master to ensure that just the right amount of character is imparted by the port casks, enhancing and developing the single malt whilst preserving its original characteristics. Creamy and silky with fruit, honey and spice notes.
